The nice people over at Dyson recently gave me the exclusive opportunity to test out their new Dyson DC24 vacuum ($399.99). As a disclaimer, I've never enjoyed vacuuming, and try to pawn off the responsibility whenever possible. But, after a few sessions with the Dyson DC24, I was singing in the rain.

Dyson has just released the new DC24 model ($399.99), the latest in the Dyson Ball range.
The DC24 is two-thirds the size of its predecessors, and has concentrated technology, which can be used on all floor types. It's ultra lightweight, weighing in at only 11.6 lbs.

I've been pretty bummed about the time change, since it's usually dark by the time I get home from work. This means that any outdoor chores, gardening work, or frolicking with the dogs is done in near pitch black, or lit from sharp, glaring porch lights.
Kathy LaLiberte, director of gardening at my favorite gardening store, Gardeners Supply Company, has come up with a pretty solution to combat the darkness.

I love the look of the Sundance Catalog's Midcentury Studio Stool ($245). The varnished raw steel has an understated, industrial look that seems as fitting for a bistro or bar counter as a kitchen or home office. At 27 inches tall and 17 inches wide, they're also a great size — big enough but not too hefty.

Cruising through downtown San Francisco, I stopped to look at this Tommy Hilfiger window display at Macy's. I like the cohesive statement the yellow chandelier, mantel, and chairs makes. It looks sunny in a cozy way, but it also seems peculiar to me to see Adirondack chairs used indoors.

We've been hit with crazy rainstorms over the past 24 hours in the Bay Area, prompting flooding, school closures, and one tough commute. Instead of focusing on the perils of our first major storm, I thought I'd focus on the pretty instead. See some of my favorite rainy day-inspired finds.

The Looolo Fly Cushion is super chic, and I love that it's made of organic Melton wool with no nonbioegradable closures. But still, at $140 to $180 per cushion, these are some spendy pillows! If you don't have the cash to burn on the Looolo, I've found some pennypinching pillows that are near matches.

Now that temperatures are dipping, it's time to pull out the heavy coats. And it's not like those coats are going to hang themselves up; you're going to have to provide a place to hang 'em. If you're squeezed for room in your entryway, try hanging a cool coat rack to help you organize and maximize the space.

Over a year ago, I picked up a pink velvet throw pillow screen-printed in gold with a feather (at right) on sale at a San Francisco boutique for $14. Since then, I've always wondered who made it, and I haven't seen it anywhere else. As it turns out, the pillow sells for over 10 times more than I bought it — score!
