Cool Idea: DIY Chevron Curtains

Maybe it's the innate sense of entitlement I have as a member of Gen Y, but I never liked the phrase, "you can't have it all."

Maybe it's the innate sense of entitlement I have as a member of Gen Y, but I never liked the phrase, "you can't have it all." Even if it means attaining the things I want in an unconventional way, I strongly believe I can have it all! Case in point: Elizabeth of Peacock Feather's new chevron curtains. Elizabeth wanted a bold pattern to bring together all of the beautiful elements in her bedroom and dreamed of a black and white chevron print on her windows. But, she says, "the idea of sourcing fabric and having full-length drapes sewn seemed like way too much money and time." So instead of looking for a knockoff of a pricey fabric like Rubie Green's chevron East Village pattern, she decided to DIY exactly what she wanted. She picked up some basic white cotton curtains from Ikea for $15 per pair and took to the fabric with semi-gloss acrylic black paint and a 4-inch trim roller, simply painting her desired zig-zag pattern herself! Now that's my kind of girl!

Painting Chevron Walls Is a New Interior Design Trend

Most interior design trends that I come across tend to include accessories or textiles that stylish home decorators can easily purchase. But the latest trend is much more inspiring because it's completely DIY. Crafty dwellers across the world have been taking to the paint bucket (and in some cases contact paper) and dressing their walls with chevron patterns in every color imaginable. Zigzag or herringbone, whatever you want to call it, the V-shape stripes are what's hot now. Come along and see!

Roundup: Chevron's Goin' On

I spotted this Black Zigzag Lamp ($185) at Emilia Ceramics, a San Francisco-based ceramic import shop, and felt a revived love for chevron patterns.

I spotted this Black Zigzag Lamp ($185) at Emilia Ceramics, a San Francisco-based ceramic import shop, and felt a revived love for chevron patterns. The contemporary lamp is handmade by Mexican pottery studio Talavera Vázquez in the city of Dolores Hidalgo. I've been drooling over Madeline Weinrib's cotton flatweave zigzag rug ever since I saw it, but aside from that, I've never felt much affinity for chevron/zigzag patterns. I thought I'd see what else is out there. So, check out my chevron finds.

Trend Alert: Zig Zaggin'

Nothing says, "I have fun with fashion" like going zig zaggin'.

Nothing says, "I have fun with fashion" like going zig zaggin'. Missoni may have zigs and zags nipped in the bud, but that doesn't mean others can't follow suit. Some of these zig zags are ebullient, some are mellow – all are an easy way to ease into the free spirited aura of Spring.
