Abigail Ahern's Quirky, Animal-Loving Home Will Convert You to the Whimsical World

Whenever I take those "style quizzes" for fashion or interior design, no matter how hard I try to fix the answers, I'm always awarded the "whimsical" description.

Whenever I take those "style quizzes" for fashion or interior design, no matter how hard I try to fix the answers, I'm always awarded the "whimsical" description. All right already. I'm whimsical (aka nuts!). I get it. I'm OK with it, because I'm not the only one who likes a little quirk. Take British interior designer Abigail Ahern, whose home photographer Todd Selby recently shot. Ahern's home is brimming with quirky style. Her sense of scale is so wild, touring her home feels like stepping into a scene from Alice in Wonderland. Bright or deep, she doesn't shy away from color, and there's an idiosyncratic accessory, often an animal item of some sort, on every tabletop.

Sounds looney tunes, right? Not so much. In fact, it's pretty stunning. Come take a tour of Ahern's home, and then try to tell me you don't love whimsical interiors!

Would You Want a Loft Bedroom?

Photographer Todd Selby recently shot the Auckland, NZ, home of stylist and vintage store owner Charlotte Rust, and I was most intrigued by this photo of Rust's bedroom: a loft above her kitchen.

Photographer Todd Selby recently shot the Auckland, NZ, home of stylist and vintage store owner Charlotte Rust, and I was most intrigued by this photo of Rust's bedroom: a loft above her kitchen. Over the years I've had a few friends with loft bedrooms, but never one in such close proximity to where the cooking goes down. It looks like this stylish lady runs a tight ship when it comes to cleanliness, and I suspect that's key for pulling off this layout. Loft bedrooms are inherently smaller than traditional boudoirs, but they can also be quite cozy and private — ideal attributes for a sleeping space.

Tell me, would you like to have a loft bedroom?

Photographer Todd Selby recently shot this Miami home of a hip-hop star. The musician also has his own apparel line and designed a series of glasses and jewelry for Louis Vuitton. He is shown here, along with a red chair that he designed for Domeau & Pérès, which features provocatively-placed legs of a man and a woman.

Todd Selby Shares a Preview of His Book Online Until Friday!

Until this Friday at 9 a.m.

Until this Friday at 9 a.m. EST, photographer Todd Selby's book, The Selby Is in Your Place ($23), will be available in its entirely online for your reading pleasure. If you haven't already bought the book, which was released in April, then after previewing it online, you'll certainly be convinced to pick up a copy for yourself — or for a friend for the holidays!

I was excited to finally get a glimpse of Simon Doonan and Jonathan Adler's paisley ping pong table, which I'd read about in interviews but never seen. Meanwhile, the massive amount of books in Karl Lagerfeld's studio truly astounded me. And, I was intrigued to see the home of director and curator Aaron Rose, whose film Beautiful Losers is a favorite of mine. Selby's photographs are so candid, and the interiors he selects are all so eclectic and personal that even the homes of those I'm unfamiliar with are fascinating to look at. Check out a few of my favorite photographs from the book below, and be sure to preview the book online before Friday!

A Look Inside Vanessa Traina's West Village Apartment

Traina moved into the apartment, which is scattered with relics, fur pillows, and a giant taxidermic zebra, which her father sent to her when she moved in — in early 2008. Lovely Little Vignettes: Sadv's Vision in Black and White

CasaSugar Community member Sadv recently shared some photos of her home with the Lovely Little Vignettes group, which she submitted for CB2's The Selby contest.

CasaSugar Community member Sadv recently shared some photos of her home with the Lovely Little Vignettes group, which she submitted for CB2's The Selby contest. I love the arrangement of white frames she hung on her black wall. It just goes to show you that costly artwork isn't a necessity for a statement-making wall. Since her TV and Holly Golightly artwork sit pretty low, it's great how the three bamboo poles she placed in a vase beside them draw your eye upward. House Tour: Philippe Starck's Cuckoo's Nest

I'm a huge fan of Philippe Starck's work.
Photos of Philippe Starck's Parisian Home by Todd Selby

I'm a huge fan of Philippe Starck's work. Heck, I have a borderline psychotic obsession with his Louis Ghost chair. But I never said he wasn't a nut case, too. Starck is the quintessential odd bird. So it's no surprise that photographer Todd Selby chose to photograph Starck's Parisian home — it completely fits the eclectic, maximalist profile Selby searches for for his interior shots.

In Starck's home, animated taxidermy, oddball paintings, knickknacks, and clutter abound, with a few luxe furnishings thrown in for good measure. It's surprising really; it's such a drastic departure from the polished and trendy interiors he designs, such as the Dwell95 apartments in NYC — with few of his own designs, too! But amidst all of the clutter, there are a number of things that I really, truly love, so come take a look.
