If you're an apartment dweller with a dog or cat, you may not have the space for a floor-hogging pet bed. But don't fret, Akemi Tanaka has a chic solution: mount it on the wall! The Curve wall mounted pet bed ($200), which comes in maple and walnut veneer, has a removable, machine-washable cushion cover and provides a comfy resting space for your small, furry companion. With several cover choices (or you can even customize it with your own fabric) and its sleek shape, it saves space without cramping your style. See some of the variations below!
You've already spent a pretty penny on your new laptop or tablet, which may leave little room in your bank account for a pricey accessory. Don't drop a wad of cash on an expensive case or bag — check out these six unique, handmade laptop and tablet bags, briefcases, and sleeves that won't cost you a fortune.
I'll admit it — I was surprised at how nice the seven-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab was to hold in my hands. I didn't think I'd like a smaller screen, but truth is, it's just the right size to pack along in your bag. If you were one of the millions who were wooed by the sleek body, crisp white backplate, and ultra compact form factor, then you're going to want to appropriately accessorize. Taking a cue from Pantone's Fall color report, I've found a bag and sleeve to fit your Tab to a T.
If you're a bag lady like me, you'll love the roomy Rini Bag ($270) that's made with Italian hand-stained leather and comes with wooden handles, metal feet (to keep it clean), and pockets on the inside for your keys and phone. Keep your Galaxy Tab protected while you tote with this Etsy Brown Wool Gabardine Case ($21) that's got a soft layer of Japanese quilted cotton on the inside lining, while the outside stays nice and fashionable with brown wool. You can go from Winter to Fall in one fell swoop! Check out more images of the products in the slideshow.
Seems like a lot of people love organic food shopping, but they love deals at organic supermarkets even more! My insider guide to snagging great discounts at Whole Foods was quite popular among readers, which is one of the reasons why the Whole Foods tips are the Best of 2010. So if you're planning on getting your money's worth at Whole Foods for some holiday food shopping, remember to take note of some of these suggestions. Happy savvy and organic shopping!
No, I'm not talking about buying diet products and expensive gym memberships, I'm referring to this latest study by the Journal of Consumer Research that says people who use cash instead of cards end up buying less junk food. Apparently, buying things with cash is more painful than purchasing with a debit or credit card, which is why people tend to be less impulsive and are more restrictive with buying unhealthy food. Lo Bosworth from The Hills recently advised people to carry cash instead; it looks like she knows what she's talking about!
I always see people take some bites of a sample at a supermarket, then walk away without buying anything. When you don't have any intention of buying the delectable products, do you still take a bite of their samples?
While we all know and love Etsy, there's another site out there with a similar idea and some rock-your-socks-off products. Supermarket is a curated online marketplace with a wide range of goods — from teacup hooks to leather briefcases to Birkin bag napkins — made by independent designers. I'm a sucker for clever trinkets like this Keychain Holder ($35), the pretty printed textiles, and the geek chic pieces like the Tetris-inspired shelving. There's a little something for everyone. Check out what I've got my eye on below!
I just stumbled on these Birkin Bag Cocktail Napkins ($52) at Supermarket, and I think they're hilariously chic. They're certainly a lot more affordable than the real thing, and you don't have to endure a four-year waiting list at Hermès just to own them. I usually opt for paper cocktail napkins just for the sake of ease. But since these are made of cotton, they don't require dry cleaning, which is definitely convenient. The set comes with eight napkins, each in a different color. So fun! I'd reserve these for a special ladies luncheon or cocktail party — men just wouldn't understand.
