Unique vs. Cheap Chic

We're always weighing a killer, unique purchase against other, maybe more budget-friendly buys, so we totally relate to this OnSugar blogger's dilemma.

We're always weighing a killer, unique purchase against other, maybe more budget-friendly buys, so we totally relate to this OnSugar blogger's dilemma. Weigh in on Beauty and the Budget's fashion query and help her decide which is the better purchase?

I have been obsessed with this 3-D Mesh Jumper since the beginning of this year when I first spotted it on Lookbook.nu. It's a really great piece from American Apparel, and even though it's a bit pricey, I still think it's worth the money. However, I still can't bring myself to spend $90 on a sweater. I was hoping it would be on sale by now, but I am beginning to think it's too beautiful to be a mark down. Nonetheless, I still find myself debating on whether or not to buy it . . .

And when you look at all of the other great pieces you can get for the same price, it's makes the decision even more difficult.

Which choice do you prefer?

Casa Gift Guide: 10 Flirty Pillows Under $50

I can't think of a single woman I know who can complain that her house has too many pretty pillows.

I can't think of a single woman I know who can complain that her house has too many pretty pillows. The men who live with these women are a different story, but we're not shopping for them, are we? This year, why not add to your favorite gal pal's burgeoning pillow collection with a fun and flirty new addition? I love the Amy Butler Dream Poppy Pillow ($40), with its three-dimensional floral design and deep blue tone. For a bit of glitz, try the Urban Outfitters Silver Foil Pillow ($24). Check out the other feminine and flirty pillows by clicking on each image.

YumSugar Gift Guide: The Hipster Foodie

A friend of mine, who fits the classification of hipster to a T, also happens to love all things gourmet.

A friend of mine, who fits the classification of hipster to a T, also happens to love all things gourmet. Initially, I was at a loss for what to get her, but I quickly discovered that there's an array of niche gift items that converge at the juncture of food, music, and cutting-edge cool. Case in point: I have to get her this book about underground dining, and because she loves to push the envelope, I know she'll flip for this shopping bag.

Handbags

Chanel's Spring 2009 Handbags Are Too Clever By Half

Karl Lagerfeld has always been a master at manipulating status symbols but we think his Chanel Spring 2009 handbags has finally replaced all reality and meaning with the iconic symbol of handbag.

Karl Lagerfeld has always been a master at manipulating status symbols but we think his Chanel Spring 2009 handbags has finally replaced all reality and meaning with the iconic symbol of handbag. And that handbag is simply a Chanel shopping bag.

It is some kind of twisted thing that it is as it is Disneyland simulacrum twice removed from an actual handbag. Frankly this bag is such a mind fuck we don't think any of our Baudrillard is going to help us figure it out. Its not an artificial placemarker for the real item despite its appearance because it is the REAL item and yet that item is not the item it purports to be. The image of the bag threatens to displace the real bag and yet that bag is the real bag. This is just all too much for us to process. Just WHOA.

Jellybean

Eco Chic: Jellybean Eco Shopper Bag

You all know how I love my Flip & Tumble bag, mostly because it rolls up into itself, so it's small and lightweight enough to carry in your purse.

You all know how I love my Flip & Tumble bag, mostly because it rolls up into itself, so it's small and lightweight enough to carry in your purse. Well Flip, mama's got a brand new bag. The Jellybean Eco Shopper Bag ($30) from the MoMA store also folds into a small square, so it can be easily stored in a purse, and has an inner pocket and an outer zip pocket. Functionally, it seems to work the same way as F&T, but printed with a playful jellybean pattern, it also boasts some visual magic. What to do? Well, it wouldn't be very eco chic to go and buy another shopper bag just because it's pretty. Maybe if I wait until my Flip wears out until I buy this Jellybean, it'll be Easter time and the bag will be wildly appropriate . . .

Designer Martin Margiela offers his MM6-line shoppers a reusable bag when they purchase something.

Designer Martin Margiela offers his MM6-line shoppers a reusable bag when they purchase something. But it's no ordinary flimsy shopping bag; it is made of braided polypropylene, which means it won't rip. If you'd rather get a totally cool shopping bag with images from the MM6 collection, then you're in luck.

You're looking at the only Martin Margiela Fall '07/'08 Shopping Bag on eBay right now (FYI: I used a better picture because the one the seller provided is unclear). It's hip, urban and will fool insiders into believing you splurged on a Martin Margiela piece. Plus, you'll be helping the environment by toting it around as an everyday tote.

It's currently priced at $18.22 and the auction ends on Thursday, October 18. Good luck and happy bidding!
