Imagine bringing Flickr, Pinterest, shelter magazines, and your favorite interior designer together in one place to help you tackle your latest remodeling project. The Houzz iOS app does just that — for free! Consider it a digital scrapbook for all your home remodeling ideas.

Houzz, the largest database of home design ideas online, created an app with over 500,000 high-resolution photos to inspire, organize, and answer all your decorating questions. Rather than searching through piles of magazines, use Houzz to search, share, and save your favorite ideas.

Warning: the clean and easy layout makes it even more addicting, so actually getting your remodel off the ground may mean putting down your tablet for a moment or two. Don't worry, once construction is over, Houzz will still be there to help pair newly painted walls with the perfect lighting options.

House Tour: A '70s Stucco Home's Much-Needed Update

Terra Firma, a Minneapolis, MN-based custom remodeling firm melds expert craftsmanship and green building practices into its conscientious remodeling work.

Terra Firma, a Minneapolis, MN-based custom remodeling firm melds expert craftsmanship and green building practices into its conscientious remodeling work. Since my brother actually used to work as a finish carpenter for the firm, I've also been able to admire the firm's work up close and personal. I was recently impressed by the firm's renovation of a Lake of the Isles home. Built in 1973, the home's gloomy interior needed some major updates. All in all, Terra Firma renovated or added approximately 5,000 square feet of the home, while also completing extensive repairs on the rotted and crumbling windows and stucco. Take a look at the beautiful work the firm completed on this home.

Before and After: Killer Kitchen Redo

Here's a post from CasaSugar Community member DStirk from the Su Casa group: When my husband and I bought our home, we always knew that the kitchen had to go.

Here's a post from CasaSugar Community member DStirk from the Su Casa group:

When my husband and I bought our home, we always knew that the kitchen had to go. Ugh. Everything was extremely out of date, and it was way too closed off from the rest of the house. Cooking in there was hot and cluttered. Nearly two years later we finally did it! Well, really an engineer and contractor did it, but you know what I mean. The cost was always what held us back, and it wasn't cheap, but now when it's all paid for and done, it's absolutely worth every penny. Our whole house has changed, and the kitchen, which we hated, is now the crown jewel.

Why Did You Remodel?

It seems that homeowners are taking on the trials and tribulations of remodeling projects more than ever right now, but the Wall Street Journal reports that all the revamping is happening for different reasons.

It seems that homeowners are taking on the trials and tribulations of remodeling projects more than ever right now, but the Wall Street Journal reports that all the revamping is happening for different reasons. Instead of making a pad better for resale purposes, folks are giving their homes a face lift to make their own living situations more enjoyable. Seems ironic that it took an economic crisis for us to appreciate the places we are in, instead of looking toward the next bigger and better thing. I've done a fair share of remodeling in my own home, and while we absolutely did it all to make my house a better fit for us, resale is always on my mind. What was the purpose for any remodeling you've done?

Before and After: A Bare Bathroom Goes Modern

Su Casa group member Rvarunnergal recently remodeled her bathroom, which as you can see, had simple builder-grade tiles beforehand. She says they wanted to make it more modern, so they added glass tiles to the shower and penny-size cork tiles on the floor. Want to see her bathroom in its updated form?

For those of us who are making do with overstuffed, poorly designed closets, this remodel project is the stuff that dreams are made of . . . or a serious case of room envy! What was once an attic in a Victorian was, thanks to the work of Lundberg Design, transformed into a bath and dressing suite. The new space eschews standard walls in favor of translucent glass panels, which separate the bath from the dressing area.

The panels' frosty tones are offset by an ebony-stained oak floor. Fiber optic lighting casts beautiful shadows, turning dresses into works of art. For a full tour of the space, read more

Casa Craving Recap: Powder Room Remodel

Last week, sandusa wrote me asking for advice on how to remodel her powder room.

Last week, sandusa wrote me asking for advice on how to remodel her powder room. She was considering painting the room a deep plum color and maybe hanging a small chandelier, but was open to all ideas. So for the latest Casa Craving Challenge, I asked you to conjure up your decorating talents to help sandusa with this project.

You can see all of the Powder Room Remodel Casa Cravings here, as well as the great lists the users created. (TeamSugar has a great tutorial on listmaking if you're not sure how.)

Here are my favorite looks:

Look #1, by nikkeeb was full of black and white accessories, used to accent the deep plum color she chose. The room definitely had a French feel to it, although the Manuscrit rug she chose had a poem written in Catalan on it.

There are some other excellent rooms, so read more

The latest Casa Craving Challenge comes from sandusa's submission to SuCasa. Sandusa would like to remodel her powder room, and wrote me saying that most "books show images of huge master bathrooms but not powder rooms even though most guests will see and use the powder room consistently." Since she has had no luck with remodeling ideas yet, I'm challenging you to come up with ideas for her. She is considering a deep plum color and maybe a small chandelier, but it really is a blank canvas. The room is relatively long and has an L shape. It can fit some small furniture if necessary. Go here to see more photos of the space. What colors, sink, floor tile, mirror, hardware and wall decor would you use?

Tell me by creating Casa Cravings and tagging your Cravings with the phrase powder room remodel, and I'll feature the results next Wednesday, November 14th. Even better, you can create a list of your bookmarks; TeamSugar has a great tutorial on listmaking if you're not sure how. Please let me know if you have any questions.
