We recently moved into a new construction home and wanted to create an outdoor living space we could really enjoy (you can read about it here). This is what the back porch looked like earlier this spring.

Su Casa: Our Screened Porch Makeover

Here's a post from CasaSugar Community member Elynch from the Su Casa group: My husband returned home on leave from Afghanistan recently and I surprised him with a makeover of our screened porch.

Here's a post from CasaSugar Community member Elynch from the Su Casa group:

My husband returned home on leave from Afghanistan recently and I surprised him with a makeover of our screened porch. He kept calling to say he wanted to relax on our porch and watch the Red Sox while enjoying a cold beer. I think I delivered on this request while still keeping it fun and stylish. Most of the furniture is from IKEA or Craigslist that I repainted. I made most of the pillows or bought a few on clearance. The carpet is commercial grade carpet tiles from Interface. Hope you like it.

Before and After: Porch Columns

Here's a post from CasaSugar Community member CaraWilkerson from the Su Casa group: Here is our porch pre-columns.

Here's a post from CasaSugar Community member CaraWilkerson from the Su Casa group:

Here is our porch pre-columns. Nothing special. We needed to spruce up our curb appeal pronto. The plan was to build wooden columns around the existing wrought-iron columns which would remain as the support for the porch. After a bit of priming, caulking, painting, and finishing with a few new house numbers, we were in business!

Before and After: Updating a Sun Porch

Su Casa member PrettyLittleWorld loves her new home, but she wasn't a fan of her sun porch.

Su Casa member PrettyLittleWorld loves her new home, but she wasn't a fan of her sun porch. She writes, "When we moved into our new home over the summer, we knew the sun porch would have to get some attention so that we could use it. The previous design was just all around unattractive, and made the porch feel a little depressing. We needed to stay within a small budget because there were bigger and more expensive things that needed doing in the rest of the house."

Do You Have a Rocking Chair on Your Porch?

Rocking chairs aren't just for grannies.

Rocking chairs aren't just for grannies. Even on a cool Autumn night, rocking on the porch is a great way to relax and enjoy the evening. Just add a wool throw and a cup of herbal tea, and you've got a perfect way to enjoy the changing leaves and crisp air. Are you a rocker?

Cool Idea: Wavy Rails on a Beach Shack

I love architecture that mimics nature, but nautilus-shaped houses are sometimes a bit too wacky for my tastes.

I love architecture that mimics nature, but nautilus-shaped houses are sometimes a bit too wacky for my tastes. Instead, I like the subtle reference. Take this porch railing, for example. Instead of a boing, straight-as-an-arrow top rail, it's been outfitted thusly. The gently undulating rail mimics the shape of ocean waves, which residents can easily appreciate from a chair on the porch. The wavy rail adds an unexpected sense of whimsy and fun to the porch, and is perfect punctuation for a Summer getaway home.

Do You Have a Front Porch?

When I lived in New Orleans, one of the most relaxing parts of my evening was spending some time on the front porch after the sun went down.

When I lived in New Orleans, one of the most relaxing parts of my evening was spending some time on the front porch after the sun went down. I also think that porches create good neighbors; I was always chatting with passersby when I'd hang out on my front porch.

Get the Look: A Sunroom Bathed in White

Browsing through Swedish shelter magazine Sköna Hem, I caught myself daydreaming about dozing off to a scandalous Philippa Gregory novel in this sun-drenched indoor porch.

Browsing through Swedish shelter magazine Sköna Hem, I caught myself daydreaming about dozing off to a scandalous Philippa Gregory novel in this sun-drenched indoor porch. Everything about the space facilitates a three o'clock siesta. The double doors close off the outside world. The cozy, ruffled settee tucks you right into sleep. The nearly all white décor has a visually cleansing effect. The lush green view is dreamlike. And the glamorous crystal chandelier and mirrored sconce give you the royal illusion that you deserve to take naps whenever you feel moved to. Are you convinced yet? For this latest What You're Wanting, I wanted to know how you'd create a stylish Summer porch.

For this latest What You're Wanting, I wanted to know how you'd create a stylish Summer porch.

As usual, your creativity and thoughtful choices left me impressed. Now I wish our house had a porch! Thanks for the inspiration!

I loved the look that Tdamji put together. She writes that, "Hot Summer evenings can be spent relaxing here on this porch. The cool blues and greens juxtapose the deep browns and crisp whites in this fun, Summer porch decor." I love the muted colors in her look, as well as the relaxing, comfortable furniture she's chosen.
