Coach is responding to the tough economic times with a new budget-friendly line named Poppy. Like the name, Poppy is a fresher, more youthful collection of footwear, handbags, and accessories compared to its namesake line. The best part? Lower price points. “Poppy offers a different attitude that is younger in spirit,” said executive creative director, Reed Krakoff. It’s playful, with more prints, interesting fabrics and more experimentation."

The Poppy line, ranging from $198 to $598, will include a whimsical array of tiaras, pochettes, footwear, watches, eyewear, and even select apparel items. The collection debuts in July in stores and online at Coach.com. Fun!

Su Casa member Jessamae22 recently posted pictures of her gorgeous poppy garden, and I had to share them with all of you. I've always loved the delicate look of poppies, and my little sister Grace (who's six), who's going to be the flower girl at my wedding, actually requested poppies for her bouquet. It seems as if poppy fandom runs in my family!

Lest you think that growing poppies are beyond your gardening ability, just see what Jessamae22 has to say. She writes, "My poppies are blooming! I just scattered seed and up they came — I love them because they look as if they're made from delicate crepe paper. But I still have to think of the Wicked Witch of the West every time I think of poppies!"

I'm filled with warm fuzzies whenever I catch the (rare) glimpse of Poppy and Ruby! Sandra Bullock adopted the three-legged Poppy back in 2005 and later added Ruby to her family with Jesse James. Although Ruby is sometimes seen with her very own doggie wheelchair, hopping on her two back legs, or rolling in a Rio Petote, Sandra opts to cuddle her disabled pooch close when they left their NYC apt last Friday. I don't know about you, but I love it when celebrities choose to add rescues to their families — Sandra seems to realize she has a lot of love and energy to give these pets that other families may pass by!

The scientific name Papaver, which translates to food or milk in Latin, refers to the milky fluid of the flower's pods. There are 120 species that belong to the Poppy family in a variety of vibrant shades like red, yellow and orange. They bloom in large numbers during summer, and prefer moist soil. Each long, hairy stalk holds one flower and the petals are very thin, almost like tissue paper. Poppies are an ancient flower that were used as decoration in Mesopotamia and Egypt, and although they don't last very long, poppies make great bouquets as well as beautiful garden borders. To make cut poppies last, burn the end of the stem with a match until it blackens, or dip it in boiling water for several minutes. They are one of the most popular wildflowers and the official flower of California. In your garden, remove dead foliage after dormancy or frost to ensure that they grow back pretty and healthy.
