10 Things You Didn't Know About Charles and Ray Eames

I finally had a chance to watch Eames: The Architect and the Painter, a gripping documentary that explores the design vision of husband-and-wife team Charles and Ray Eames.

The film exposes the inner workings of their adventurously kooky office and reveals a true love story between a man and a woman and their insatiable appetite for modernism. Although I'm familiar with the brand's iconic midcentury designs, I knew very little about the quirks of Charles and Ray's dynamic personalities or the extent of their work before I saw the film.

I highly recommend watching this documentary (available for streaming on Netflix!). In the meantime, keep reading to check out this list of fascinating facts you may not have known about Charles and Ray Eames!

Jewelry designer Jennifer Fisher's interior design style reflects the casual edge for which her jewelry line is known. A native of Santa Barbara, CA, Jennifer began her fashion career working bicoastal, wardrobe-styling gigs for feature films, television shows, and commercials. With a new husband and a decade of fashion cred under her belt, she decided to move to New York City to raise a family and open the next chapter of her career.

After giving birth to their first child, Shane, Jennifer wanted a personalized piece of jewelry to celebrate their new baby boy, but couldn't find anything on the market that was unique or versatile enough. So, she decided to design her own piece of jewelry and the rest was history. Today, Jennifer Fisher Jewelry is worn by celebrity moms like Sarah Jessica Parker and Gwyneth Paltrow. Her jewelry has also been worn in feature films and television shows like Sex and the City the Movie, Entourage, The Hills, The L Word, and Gossip Girl, among others.

Take a peek inside the North Tribeca apartment Jennifer shares with her husband and two children. Find out why NYC is a great place to raise a family, which home decor shops she can't live without, and her secrets for creating a hip, modern space for a family on the go!

Currently on the market for $19.5 million, the main house and guesthouse share common materials and lines, but distinct designs. Tastemaker Tips: Modernism 101 With Vas Kiniris of Zinc Details

Twenty years ago, $1,000 was all it took for Zinc Details owner Vas Kiniris to set up shop in San Francisco's Tenderloin hood.

Twenty years ago, $1,000 was all it took for Zinc Details owner Vas Kiniris to set up shop in San Francisco's Tenderloin hood. Determined to shake the town out of its postmodern slumber, Vas set out to bring the cool, avant-garde aesthetic from his European travels back to his 200-square-foot store. After winning honorable mentions during his first showing at ICFF, Vas knew he was onto something. Twenty years later, Zinc Details inhabits a much larger space in San Francisco's Pacific Heights neighborhood and services retail, wholesale, and ecommerce shoppers. As a staple in the San Francisco design community, Vas loves to hold screenings, tastings, and viewings at the store, to "keep the conversation going" about modern design.

If you're in the San Francisco Bay Area, check out the launch of Zinc Details' Borgias Unveiled window display tonight and scope out the space. If San Francisco is too far, not to worry! I've reeled in Vas to share his tips for introducing high-impact doses of modernism into any home.

Walnut Desks With Mid-Century Pop Perfect For Season 5 of Mad Men

With the long awaited return of Mad Men on the horizon, I'm eagerly anticipating oodles of '60s-era modern furniture and decor delights every week.

With the long awaited return of Mad Men on the horizon, I'm eagerly anticipating oodles of '60s-era modern furniture and decor delights every week. In particular, I'm curious about the look of the offices in season five, and in particular the desks. I've rounded up two gorgeous walnut desks that introduce color into the design that would be absolutely welcome in the set design for this season of Mad Men.

The first desk I'm in serious love with is the Swag Leg Desk by Herman Miller ($2,000). Available through Room & Board, this desk was designed by George Nelson in 1958 for Herman Miller. Built out of solid walnut and chrome, its small size allows you to tuck it into a corner of your bedroom or use it in a studio space. The big pops of color on the desk's lacquer shelf area, however, will always ensure that it makes a statement.

Keep clicking for another walnut desk with mid-century pop — at a lower price point.
