This Tron Lamp Is Pretty and Mesmerizing

I confess: I did not make it to a midnight screening of Tron: Legacy last month like many did, or even watch it at all.

I confess: I did not make it to a midnight screening of Tron: Legacy last month like many did, or even watch it at all. But even as a nonfan, I must say, this movie has spawned some seriously covetable accessories.

The Ring Lamp is one such product. Its trademark Tron light, designed from bioluminescent polymers, dims or brightens by rotating the light disc, and its streamlined and beautiful design would look at home in many modern pads. And even without knowing anything about the movie, I wouldn't mind waking up to it at all.

Unfortunately, this lamp is still only a concept, but if you are mesmerized by its serene glow, check out a few more pics in the gallery below!

Geek Tip: Make Your Workstation a Little More Ergonomic

It doesn't take much to make your home workstation a little more body friendly.

It doesn't take much to make your home workstation a little more body friendly. So before you head back to school this Fall, add a few ergonomic touches to your home office. I have professed my love for the Ikea Dave Laptop stand many times before, so if you must work in front of the tube (like yours truly), put it on a stand and not on your lap! Add a desk lamp to save your eyes, and either an amazing chair or a fitness ball (or both!) to save your back and shoulders. Also, make sure you have a pretty keyboard wrist rest to prevent typing fatigue.

Milk Carton Lamps: Totally Geeky or Geek Chic?

If you're a fan of milk (and you'd have to be), today is your lucky day.

If you're a fan of milk (and you'd have to be), today is your lucky day. I found yet another milky product that you can use at home, without having to worry about it spoiling. Remember the milk external hard drives? Well these milk carton Long Life Lamps ($65) I found on (wait for it) Supermarket can stack up against that cooling hard drive case any day — they're so much more realistic!

To be used anywhere you need light, these lamps come with a super long-lasting bulb (hence the name). And even though you can have this lamp hang out on your desk with all your gadgets, I'd like to see it as a centerpiece for my kitchen table. You know, to fool my overnight guests when they go for the milk in the mornings.

Electro Puff Lamp Dimmer: Dim It, Pet It

When my electrician brother-in-law installed a dimmer for me once, I was the happiest girl in the whole wide world.

When my electrician brother-in-law installed a dimmer for me once, I was the happiest girl in the whole wide world. Why are dimmers so radical? Why is chocolate delicious? It just is!

This Electro Puff Lamp Dimmer ($35) dims the light as an electronic sensor, but with a decidedly un-minimal look — its fuzziness is due to the recycled carpet fibers it's made from (just tap to control the light levels). And the green, white, and blue motif? I'm not sure, but it's earthly, right?

Love It or Leave It

Photography Floor Lamp: Love It or Leave It?

The glamour of an old-timey movie set or photography shoot can now be yours!

The glamour of an old-timey movie set or photography shoot can now be yours! CB2's Photography Floor Lamp ($100) has succeeded in making something very industrial blend right into modern decor. Though I hope the light from this lamp isn't as white and bright as what they need for shoots, I think I could see this in my living room.

On the other hand, its look may not translate and be too tech-y, to the point where your guests are wondering where the guy with the boom mike is. What do you think of it?

iPot: Not Made by Apple, But Still Rad. . . You Like?

I wonder if Steve Jobs loves that people keep appending an "i" to their products in an Apple-like fashion, or if he thinks they're stealing his thunder.

I wonder if Steve Jobs loves that people keep appending an "i" to their products in an Apple-like fashion, or if he thinks they're stealing his thunder. Either way, you put an i in front of a simple word, and you suddenly have an attention-grabbing product name.

At least the latest perpetrator of this iCrime, the iPot, is actually pretty useful and attractive, not unlike Apple products in general, so it's not an offhand association. As a little desk lamp, the iPot provides an LED light in a glowing white pod, charges on a USB cord, and is affordable: just $19. Light it up! Do you like it?

Solo Microphone Pendant Light: Love It or Leave It?

My addictions to Rock Band and SingStar have made me an unexpected ham lately.

My addictions to Rock Band and SingStar have made me an unexpected ham lately. I sing anywhere and everywhere, which I'm sure is a total delight and not annoying at all to my co-workers, boyfriend, and people on the train with me. I use hairbrushes or my thumb — trusty stand-in microphones — but what if it was the other way around, and microphones stood in for something else?

That's the idea with the Solo Pedant Light ($236), which is a microphone-cum-lamp. Available in three colors, imagine how cute it would be hanging over your dining table. I unequivocally love it — check out the light pattern it produces!

Visible Cord Lamp: Love It or Leave It?

I spend so much time trying to hide my cords, and wind my cords, that sometimes I just want to be totally rid of cords.

I spend so much time trying to hide my cords, and wind my cords, that sometimes I just want to be totally rid of cords. That's why I would have never considered something that's normally the general bane of my existence to be beautiful. I am totally speechless about this lamp — a design presented by Nicolo Taliani at this year's ICFF (International Contemporary Furniture Fair).

The sheer modernness of it — the silhouette, color, glass base — makes the tangled cord inside work, while a more complicated design would just make it look like a mess. But for me, I'd buy this lamp as soon as it was available and put it in my place in a heartbeat.

What's your take? Hot piece or hot mess?

Lamp That Measures Type Speed: Geeky or Geek Chic?

Sure everyone wants to know how fast they type, or how to type faster, but is a large desk accessory that lights up while you type the right diagnostic tool?

Sure everyone wants to know how fast they type, or how to type faster, but is a large desk accessory that lights up while you type the right diagnostic tool? This USB-powered desk lamp from Solid Alliance fluctuates between a golden color and a brighter blue as your typing speed intensifies. Presumably it's meant to encourage you to keep your typing speed in the blue zone, and while it's not particularly hideous, I'm not sure I'd set it up in my office. Would you use it as a typing aid?
