Interior Designer Kyle Schuneman's Top Tip For Gifting Artwork

Are you considering giving art this holiday season?
KleinReid at ShopStyle

Are you considering giving art this holiday season? While many buyers would consider giving another holiday sweater over selecting a pretty art print, don't be scared off from buying a beautiful piece of art for a special friend of family member this holiday season.

Interior designer Kyle Schuneman, whose work has been nationally showcased everywhere from HGTV to Dwell, recently collaborated with Art.com to help streamline and simplify the art buying process. Not only did he create art buying gift guides for shoppers, but he also offered plenty of tips. My favorite tip from Kyle is on correctly sizing your gift.

Kyle advises, "When giving art as a gift, make it personal. I tend to recommend smaller pieces, as they offer more ways to be utilized. Think about a great trip or memory that you shared with the recipient and try to find a piece of art that evokes the mood or that place."

Cool Idea: A Sophisticated and Masculine Terrace

Designer Kyle Schuneman sent me an email over the weekend with pictures from the Don Q Terrace that he designed for the 2010 Esquire House in LA.

Designer Kyle Schuneman sent me an email over the weekend with pictures from the Don Q Terrace that he designed for the 2010 Esquire House in LA.

Kyle writes,

I was asked to team up with the rum company, Don Q, and bring their brand to life for the pool area of the $18.9 Million dollar Esquire House that is designed to be the ultimate bachelor pad.  The theme was "Fire and Ice" based off of some of Don Q's specialty drinks and a very masculine color palette of black, white, grey, and a hints of blue.  From the striped stone flooring that was flown in from the Italian company, Graniti Fiandre, to the vintage neon bar sign and 28 foot long fire pit and additional sun deck that was added I really wanted to create a sexy oasis.

I definitely think Kyle succeeded in his intentions for the space. The $18.9 million, 9,000-square-foot luxury home located in the Hollywood Hills has been completely rebuilt from the ground up. While this bachelor pad may look like it's all about having a good time, it will actually play host to galas and events to benefit charity partners including City of Hope, FasterCures, International Medical Corps, Oceana, and Oxfam. Kyle Schuneman Redesigns the Tyra Banks Show Office

The Tyra Banks Show recently called upon one of my Designer Spotlights, Kyle Schuneman, to transform its drab and boring office into a fabulous workspace.

The Tyra Banks Show recently called upon one of my Designer Spotlights, Kyle Schuneman, to transform its drab and boring office into a fabulous workspace. Kyle started by painting the walls a serene blue with eco-friendly, zero-VOC paint. Then, he anchored the room with a Room and Board Parsons Desk and brought in a file cabinet with classic lines for storage. Nature-inspired curtains from Lotus Bleu added some pattern and chimed in on the earthy blue of the walls, while the Palladian Urn Crystal Lamp from Restoration Hardware gave the space polish.

I love how he mixed an Eames task chair knock-off with a Louis XIV side chair at the desk, flawlessly blending different eras and styles. Off to the side of the office, Kyle brought in the Urban Outfitters Antoinette Fainting Sofa, which countered the hard lines of the desk with feminine curves, and created a glamorous space to relax in with a mirrored table at its side. As for artwork, he displayed antique wallpaper in baroque frames from Ikea. Easy, instant, beautiful! See before and after photos and a widget of some of the products used when you read more

Whether he's designing for interiors, television sets, or as part of a challenge for a show on HGTV, Style, or the DIY Network, designer Kyle Schuneman remains loyal to his company's slogan: "Be You. Live You. Live Well."

I appreciate how Kyle's designs integrate trendy items into comfortable, livable interiors. This young (22-year-old) designer certainly knows his way around small spaces, which are his specialty. While he grew up in Chicago, Kyle is now based out of Los Angeles, where he's worked with companies such as Microsoft, Lipton, and Target. Kyle's style is definitely well-honed already, and I look forward to seeing what this very young designer does in the future years.

One of my favorite shots from the gallery is the tiled blue bathroom wall. Are you a fan as well? Then let Kyle instruct you on how to re-create it in your own home by following the directions here
