Textile Designer John Robshaw Launches Paper Goods For Globetrotters

If you're a fan of textile designer John Robshaw's block-printed beauties, then you'll want in on his latest medium: paper.

If you're a fan of textile designer John Robshaw's block-printed beauties, then you'll want in on his latest medium: paper. His new stationery, journal, and notebook collections for Chronicle Books are well suited for the wanderlust-bitten with a soft spot for snail mail, travel diaries, and pretty notebooks.

When we received the Creature Notecards ($15), we fought the urge to set up a desk-side menagerie, just for viewing's sake. These beautifully illustrated animal cards are the type that will end up on your friend's inspiration board instead of the recycling bin. Still, if a more traditional stationery set is what you're looking for, then take a look at this Stationery Collection ($15), which includes vibrantly patterned flat sheets, envelopes, and even labels.

For those embarking on a journey, we recommend this Ramble & Rove travel journal ($20) for filling in the gaps that photos can't capture. We're loving the thought-provoking page prompts that help guide the writing process (a bonus for journal newbies!). Plus, tools like measuring and currency conversion charts provide plenty of practicality.

The Verdant Garden Eco-Journal ($11) offers a straightforward and sustainable notebook option. It's printed with soy-based inks on 100 percent recycled paper and features some of our favorite designs from John Robshaw's fabric selections.

Get the Look: John Robshaw's Global-Inspired Office

We are huge fans of textile designer John Robshaw, but since we are still waiting for our invitation to visit his house (ahem), we just have to make do with some good old-fashioned voyeurism.

We are huge fans of textile designer John Robshaw, but since we are still waiting for our invitation to visit his house (ahem), we just have to make do with some good old-fashioned voyeurism. Accented with shades of cerulean, his signature ethnic fabrics, and natural finishes, Mr. Robshaw's office manages to be stimulating and calming all at once — a combination that can be tricky to pull off. We dissected some of our favorite elements, like the two-toned paint job and modern campaign desk, and found similar versions that will help you get the look. John Robshaw Shares Next Season's Color Palette and Why He Loves Block Printing

Did you catch this past weekend's John Robshaw sale at One King's Lane?

Did you catch this past weekend's John Robshaw sale at One King's Lane? His items flew off the shelf at a fast clip, and if, like me, your favorite finds sold out before you could click them into your online shopping cart, don't worry: the textile designer plans on working with OKL again in the future. John recently took the time to answer a few quick questions I had about his process and inspirations.

  • On colors inspiring him right now: "Next season, the colors I will be working with are smoky clay, white and gold. I have this smoky clay color that I put right on an unbleached white linen with gold. It will be an old gold that sort of fades and tarnishes."
  • On why block printing is a timeless technique: "I love block printing because it is spontaneous. I mess around with the blocks. I have fun and make mistakes. When I spill dyes I usually muck up the blocks, but always stumble into some new combination, thought, or idea that would not happen on a computer. I love block printing because it is hands-on and there is no way to replace that.
  • On why he chose to work with One Kings Lane: "The One Kings Lane folks are truly fanatics about the home industry and you can tell that their passion is driving their success.  They take the time to properly organize and curate sales, which I find really boosts the consumer shopping experience on One Kings Lane."

Take a look below for some of my favorite finds from John Robshaw's current line. Want to learn more about this designer? Check out this article on Elle Decor.

Nice and New: John Robshaw's Dreamy Duvets

I want John Robshaw in my bed stat.

I want John Robshaw in my bed stat. Not the man himself, though he's quite easy on the eyes, but his dreamy bedding! His latest collection of block print duvets, quilts, shams, and other accents have me drooling and dreaming of India. Unfortunately, I wasn't in Gujarat and Rajasthan to see the process in person, but I did get to stop by his Mill Valley trunk show at Summer House. A treat for sure, I felt like a kid in a candy store with armories chock-full of his newest linens. The hardest part? Deciding which quilt and accent pillows are my favorite or best suited for my own boudoir. I'm thinking the Deccan Duvet wins my vote.

Sale Alert: 20% Off at John Robshaw

John Robshaw's traditionally printed, dyed, and woven textiles have always been favorites of mine, especially his graphic dhurrie rugs, color-blocked linens, and sophisticated pillows.

John Robshaw's traditionally printed, dyed, and woven textiles have always been favorites of mine, especially his graphic dhurrie rugs, color-blocked linens, and sophisticated pillows. And while they're reasonably priced, they've always been a bit of a reach for my purposes. So I was delighted to see a great selection of items at John Robshaw discounted 20 percent. The sale includes throws, pillows, bedding, bedskirts, shawls, and dhurries. I'm particularly smitten with this Aqua Decorative Pillow ($56). The only question is . . . where do I stop? Here are a few more of my faves from the sale:

Su Casa: Minka's Updated Living Room

Su Casa member Minka has made some updates her living room, and I am thoroughly impressed!

Su Casa member Minka has made some updates her living room, and I am thoroughly impressed! Here's what she said about the changes:

I rearranged the pictures on my wall salon-style, so there's room for more. Lots of my friends are photographers, so I'm always snagging work from them. I just got new pillows for my Crate and Barrel couch. The old ones were the same fabric as the couch. I also picked up some John Robshaw pillows on sale and mixed in some white IKEA ones. I covered the couch with a blue sheet to match the color scheme and to protect it from cat hair (I have two kitties that shed a lot).

I think it's a beautiful room. The salon-style arrangement of artwork really creates a strong focal point, and the architecture of the room is ideal. I'm loving her coffee table (great shape!) and chrome armchair, and you know how I love Moroccan poufs. I love the color pairing of her red throw and greenish blue chair as well. Good work, Minka!

Steal of the Day: John Robshaw Pondicherry Duvet

Back in October, I rounded up some stylish finds at HSN, and was surprised to see designs by Nate Berkus, John Robshaw, and Colin Cowie in store.

Back in October, I rounded up some stylish finds at HSN, and was surprised to see designs by Nate Berkus, John Robshaw, and Colin Cowie in store. Well, I just revisited and found a slew of stylish finds on sale, and I couldn't help but pass the word along. I'm loving this John Robshaw Pondicherry Duvet ($99.95, reduced from $200). Its soft, teal, hand-blocked medallion print is light and beachy — great for a Summer house. The duvet has a button closure, hand-stitched detailing, and is made from 400 thread count Egyptian cotton. It's definitely a steal if I ever saw one.

Nice and New: John Robshaw Christmas Stocking

Not to be a brat or anything, but my family has been using the same gigantic Christmas stockings for more than 20 years, always filled to the brim with lots of goodies.

Not to be a brat or anything, but my family has been using the same gigantic Christmas stockings for more than 20 years, always filled to the brim with lots of goodies. So, at 12" x 21", the John Robshaw Block Printed Holly Stockings ($70 each) won't do for me, but they're certainly stylish enough to hang on the mantel simply as décor in my home. Available with a mistletoe, candy cane, or peppermint pattern, they're quite festive and would also make a wonderful gift for anyone you know who's building up their collection of holiday décor. What do you think?

Roundup: Stylish Finds at HSN

The Home Shopping Network has bewildered me since the '90s.

The Home Shopping Network has bewildered me since the '90s. I never understood the phenomenon, why people get so attached to it . . . and more importantly, why people would buy all that crap. But, as it turns out, HSN does actually sell some stylish items, particularly in the home décor department. Interior designer Nate Berkus, beloved by Oprah Winfrey, carries an exclusive home collection with the retailer-cum-television-network, as well as textile designer John Robshaw and party planner to the stars Colin Cowie. HSN actually also has a handful of both classic and trendy pieces that are quite stylish, I must say, but not necessarily by a recognizable brand.
