Perfect Party Prop: Upside-Down Branches

Nothing says Spring to me like cherry blossoms, and I love these upside-down flowering branches that Anthropologie shared on its Facebook page.

Nothing says Spring to me like cherry blossoms, and I love these upside-down flowering branches that Anthropologie shared on its Facebook page.

Seeing the flowers at an unexpected angle really ups the drama of the look. I can see it working at a wedding or bridal shower, especially used to frame a doorway or entrance to a home or ceremony site.

If you want to try this look at home, make sure to keep the branches hydrated until the last possible minute. To do so, cut the ends of the branches at an angle, and trim away leaves, thorns, and bark that will be below water level (the branches can absorb more water if the bark is removed). Submerge the angled branch ends in clean water until you're ready to display them.

Can you see yourself decorating with topsy-turvy branches like these? Where would you put them?

DIY a Handpainted Branch Wall

Modern design enthusiast, homeowner, and blogger Capree is certainly ambitious.

Modern design enthusiast, homeowner, and blogger Capree is certainly ambitious. When she and her husband moved into their house three years ago, they immediately set to work transforming the beige and tan color scheme into something more to their liking. First, they painted out the alcoves in white — the prior owner had opted for high-gloss purple — and then updated the walls in a neutral gray.

However, they didn't stop there. Updating the house involved a few bolder paint choices, along with an incredibly ambitious handpainted wall. Inspired by Ferm's branch wallpaper, Capree decided to try to re-create the pattern by hand!

Do You Decorate With Branches?

I've really been loving the look of tall branches arranged in a vase lately.

I've really been loving the look of tall branches arranged in a vase lately. Of course, freshly-cut branches — like the ones from gorgeous pink cherry blossom trees — are always magnificent; remember seeing them on the set of She's Out of My League? I'm thinking about integrating some dried branches, like Billy buttons or Chinese lanterns, into my décor. It's a foolproof flower arrangement that's not faux and always looks fab! Do you decorate with branches?

The branches trend came onto the design scene almost two years ago, and it's still kicking. Su Casa member ckim8120, who is often inspired by nature, put her own spin on the trend by making a jewelry stand out of a tree branch she found outdoors. The only supplies the DIY requires are a tree branch, white spray paint, and newspaper. To learn the steps and see more photos, read more

Steal of the Day: Viva Terra Bark Candlesticks

The tree-branch trend may be giving way to birch and other motifs, but I still appreciate a lovely tree-inspired accent.

The tree-branch trend may be giving way to birch and other motifs, but I still appreciate a lovely tree-inspired accent. Especially one that's sleek and metallic rather than brown and burly; even better if it's on sale.

If you're knot ready to give up the tree trend just yet, snap up these Viva Terra Recycled Aluminum Bark Candlesticks ($89, marked down from $179). They're half price but fully fabulous.

Branching Out!

Yesterday CasaSugar tipped us off to a great bargain on the Viva Terra Porcelain Branch Teapot.

Yesterday CasaSugar tipped us off to a great bargain on the Viva Terra Porcelain Branch Teapot. I loved the woodsy look and it got me curious about the whole branch trend in general. I've seen it in many home-decorating elements and knew that I'd find a similar pattern in kitchenware. With that in mind I went shopping and rounded up a bunch of really neat branch items. If you're into branches I've found dishware, glassware, table accessories, serving utensils, and more. To check them all out, scroll through below.

Trend Alert: Branches, Branches Everywhere

I've been loving the branches look for a while now, and only recently realized that I hadn't featured it in a trend alert.

I've been loving the branches look for a while now, and only recently realized that I hadn't featured it in a trend alert. Since my mind's been on Fall, with its falling leaves and bare branches, I thought it was a great time to highlight some of my favorite finds with the branch trend. Are you enjoying this trend as much as I am, or are you starting to think it's a little played out?
