So what to do if you didn't come into this world as an eccentric trust funder but still love the look of an aviary? Luckily, there is an option out there for the rest of us.
Birds and fish have really drawn the short end of the stick when it comes to dwelling design. So I was delighted to come across Duplex, a bird cage topped with a fish tank. The design of the aquarium was molded convexly to create a space where the bird flies and the fish swims at the same height, creating a visual encounter between the two. Beyond that, this air and waterworld fusion is absolutely stunning with its wooden cage bars and tall, bulbous shape. I never liked cleaning the algae out of fish bowls, but for the Duplex, I'd do anything.
I know I'm running full steam ahead for Spring when all I can think about are birds! I've not only been talking about feeding the wild ones lately, but wearing them on my clothes as well. North loves birds too . . . only he shows his love by chasing them when we're out walking.
I've mentioned before that I don't have my own bird but, if I did, I wouldn't be getting a huge eyesore of a bird cage you can find at just any old superstore. I'd invest some real dough in a vintage or antique birdcage that has stood the test of time and can serve as a stylish aviary for my feathered fam. While recently cruising eBay, I found some totally awesome bird cages that are along the lines of what I would choose, like this dome topped bird cage (now $91) pictured here for a small bird. I love the one-of-a-kind character it would add to a room, plus where else can you find such cool antiques for so little but on eBay and Craigslist!? She writes, "I'm just finishing up redecorating my daughter's room and having trouble finding accessories, specifically a bird cage. She changed her bed spread to this birds and bird cages design (see left), so a black-wire bird cage would be a fantastic item to add to the room.
