Those stories and more in our daily news roundup.

Those stories and more in our daily news roundup.

  • Shouldn't every day be Saturday? That's the idea behind the new brand Kate Spade Saturday, a standalone label with its own stores and website that will launch for Spring 2013. The price point is about 50 percent lower than Kate Spade New York; the average price for a garment from Saturday is $90. [WWD]

  • Vogue isn't just celebrating its 120th anniversary with a new book. On Dec. 6, HBO will premiere the documentary In Vogue: The Editor's Eye, a tribute to legendary editors from Polly Mellen to Grace Coddington. "They have always been our secret weapon," said Anna Wintour. "So it seemed to me that we could celebrate Vogue, and also, at the same time, celebrate these great editors." [Fashionologie Inbox]

  • Valentino, Oscar de la Renta, Balenciaga, and M Missoni are each auctioning off one-month Summer internships through CharityBuzz. The money raised will benefit Rosie's Theater Kids, a New York charity that aims to improve the lives of children through performing arts. [Vogue UK]

  • The collaborations just won't stop. Kirna Zabete is working on a collection for Nine West that will debut in February. [The Cut]

  • Dita Von Teese's first application of red lipstick happened at age 13. "I remember one time putting on a red and thinking, 'This changes everything. This is all you really need,'" she said. [Into the Gloss]

  • Photographer Justin Wu cast an international laundry list of models — including Olivia Palermo, RJ King, and River Viiperi — in his latest edition of Boys and Girls of Fashion Week. [YouTube]

Have You Been to an Auction?

I've only seen what auctions are like on TV and movies, so I'm sure it's a lot less glamorous than what it looks like.

I've only seen what auctions are like on TV and movies, so I'm sure it's a lot less glamorous than what it looks like. And if you have your heart set on buying something specific, I imagine it might even be a bit stressful.

Although an auction sounds exciting, I can see how it might be very easy to go over your budget when you're competing with someone else's bid. After all, if someone else wants the item, it just makes the object seem more valuable. Be it an auction for antiques, real estate, or charity — have you ever been to one?

Go Grocery Shopping With Adam Scott, For the Right Price

Boyishly good-looking Adam Scott, from Parks and Recreation and the late (but great!) Party Down, is auctioning off a trip to the grocery store with him on eBay.

Boyishly good-looking Adam Scott, from Parks and Recreation and the late (but great!) Party Down, is auctioning off a trip to the grocery store with him on eBay.

All money will go to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, and the current bidding price is $800 with three days to go. There are a few caveats, though, but bonuses, too. You've got to be in LA (though any store is game!) and pay for your groceries, and the date will depend on Adam's schedule, which is booked until at least February. On the plus side, he will wear a "T-Shirt w/UR Face While Shopping w/U!" and talk to everyone, anyone, or at least the check-out person about you. You can bring a friend, but I don't know why you would.

It's part of Upright Citizens Brigade's Comedy Death-Ray's Nativity Pageant on Dec. 14, and he's not the only celebrity auctioning his time and things. Larry David will fill out any greeting card, Sarah Silverman will go to brunch with the winner, and comedian Rob Huebel will come to someone's house and watch TV.

It sounds awkward and awesome at once, which is actually better than just awkward!

Earlier this week, an original Apple-1 computer went on the Christie's auction block, expecting to draw between $161,600 and $242,400 for its sale. The computer cost $666.66 34 years ago, and is hardly considered a computer by today's standards, but it fetched a pretty amazing price.

Can you guess how much it sold for?

Vacation

Stay at Ralph Lauren's Villa

Back in August, I told you about the possibility of spending a weekend at Donna Karan's dreamy beach home.

Back in August, I told you about the possibility of spending a weekend at Donna Karan's dreamy beach home. The exclusive vacation was being auctioned through CharityBuzz to raise funds for The Ellen Hermanson Foundation, a breast cancer fund. While some other lucky vacationer won a stay at Karan's home, fashion designer and American icon Ralph Lauren is currently auctioning his Jamaican villa, with the proceeds benefiting breast cancer research through his Pink Pony foundation.
This is definitely a luxury charity auction, with the reserve bid starting at $50,000. Ah, to dream of such a luxurious vacation (and all for a good cause)! The winning bidder and up to three guests will get to spend four days and three nights at Ralph Lauren’s personal Jamaican paradise. The villa is fully staffed and has been featured on the cover of Architectural Digest and House & Garden. Situated on a gorgeous cliff overlooking the Caribbean Sea, perks include an infinity pool, private beach access, and complimentary yoga sessions and tennis lessons.

If you had your heart set on Donna Karan's vacation home, good news: it's back up for auction through Pink Pony. Neither of these vacations quite in your budget? See all of the items up for bid in the Pink Pony Auction.

One trend I can get behind: embracing technology as a way to donate to charity. And now a brand-new auction is using Twitter to leverage donations. TwitChange, the first celebrity Twitter auction, offers an interesting reward for donations: having a well-known celebrity retweet, follow, or otherwise mention you in a tweet of their own.

Take a Beach Vacation at Donna Karan's Private Estate

I've been dreaming about a beach vacation since I returned from Kauai almost two years ago, but I never let myself dream about something as posh as staying at Donna Karan's house.

I've been dreaming about a beach vacation since I returned from Kauai almost two years ago, but I never let myself dream about something as posh as staying at Donna Karan's house. Now, however, some lucky family can do just that while feeling good about their stay: all of the proceeds go to charity!

Donna Karan is auctioning the chance to spend four nights at her private estate on Parrot Cay in the Turks and Caicos. Known as "The Sanctuary," this stunning, secluded family retreat is hidden among lush island vegetation. A short walk will take you down to the white sand beach for swimming, sunning, and snorkeling. Back at the estate, you can relax in the infinity pool lined with black volcanic stone or peruse Karan's personal collection of African and Asian art that adorn the walls.

The exclusive vacation for eight people, valued at over $40,000, is currently up for auction on luxury charity auction site CharityBuzz to raise funds for The Ellen Hermanson Foundation. This charity was established in 1997 to honor the memory of Ellen Hermanson, a crusader in the fight against breast cancer; proceeds from this auction will help fund the Ellen Hermanson Breast Center at Southampton Hospital, as well as other activities undertaken by the foundation.

If you have the cash and need for a private vacation, go ahead and make your bid through Wednesday, Sept. 8. For a quick tour of Karan's home, check out the gallery below.

Have You Ever Purchased Home Furnishings on eBay?

EBay is a goldmine for unique antique and vintage home décor that you simply can't buy new, and you may have to invest time searching for in thrift stores or flea markets.

EBay is a goldmine for unique antique and vintage home décor that you simply can't buy new, and you may have to invest time searching for in thrift stores or flea markets. For instance, the other day I spotted a 1960s Hollywood Regency ornate gold container meant to hold cans of hair spray — of all things! For a less ridiculous option, you simply won't spot a four-tiered tray as chic as this one at Pottery Barn. But before you can have these online auction gems deliver, you have to deal with the hassle of searching, watching, bidding, and waiting. And shipping large furniture pieces is another problem-o.
Tell me, have you ever purchased home décor on eBay? Have you at least window shopped?

For Sale: Queen Victoria's Tattered Stockings

Next month a pair of stockings that belonged to Queen Victoria will be auctioned off to anyone who has at least $600.

Next month a pair of stockings that belonged to Queen Victoria will be auctioned off to anyone who has at least $600. Though you'll probably need a lot more than that, considering a pair of her bloomers sold for $5,000 in July 2008.

A specialist from the auction house made sure to up the stockings' cache by saying, "I was immediately reminded of a scene in the film The Young Victoria, where Prince Albert knelt at Queen Victoria's feet and rolled her silk stockings up her legs." Except the stockings are believed to date back to 1874 when the queen was in her 50s and her husband was dead. They are, however, believed to be one of her favorite designs.
