Stained or worn to bits, the heirlooms sometimes reach their expiration dates sooner than we'd like. My sister is a queen bee hostess, and she's always wearing an apron when she hosts a party (she hosted both my bridal shower and my baby shower wearing adorable retro aprons). So, this year I decided to make her a new one that would hopefully enter the rotation with her vintage aprons.

While I'm not a fan of retro ideas about housework falling to women, I have happily embraced one remnant from days of household cleaning past: the apron. While most everyone associates aprons with kitchen work and baking projects, I've found them to be incredibly helpful when cleaning the house. If your home is looking so fresh and so clean, but your clothes are getting trashed in the process, I've got a great solution for you: wear an apron. I admit that I have a substantial collection of vintage and vintage-look aprons, and tying one on before I start a massive cleaning project makes me feel better prepared for the task ahead.
