Casa Quickie: Put a Frame on It

If you like it then you should put a frame on it.

If you like it then you should put a frame on it. Handkerchiefs, bonnets, doilies, and pillows are common linens that are passed down through generations. Stained or worn to bits, the heirlooms sometimes reach their expiration dates sooner than we'd like. Before it's worn to shreds, salvage the item and the memories behind it by framing it in your home like I did with my late grandmother's apron.

Satisfy Your Clog Craving With These Two (Reasonably Priced) Styles

One of our favorite studded clogs this season—a classic style in tan leather by Stuart Weitzman (left)—hit stores this week, while the strap happy version at right will be available this March.

One of our favorite studded clogs this season—a classic style in tan leather by Stuart Weitzman (left)—hit stores this week, while the strap happy version at right will be available this March. Priced at $345 and $375, respectively, both are fashionable ways to embrace spring's clog-obsessed trend without breaking the bank. Of course, you could also splurge on these, which will most certainly have a long wait list come spring.

The Second DIY of Christmas: Hostess Apron

My sister is a queen bee hostess, and she's always wearing an apron when she hosts a party (she hosted both my bridal shower and my baby shower wearing adorable retro aprons).

My sister is a queen bee hostess, and she's always wearing an apron when she hosts a party (she hosted both my bridal shower and my baby shower wearing adorable retro aprons). So, this year I decided to make her a new one that would hopefully enter the rotation with her vintage aprons.

If you have basic sewing skills, this is a super simple project. This apron took me a little over an hour to finish, but I'd set aside a block of two hours of time to get everything done.

Here's What You'll Need

  • A cute skirt that you no longer wear (I used one that I grabbed at a clothing exchange for this exact purpose)
  • Contrasting fabric for apron ties and/or pockets and trim
  • Thread
  • Sewing machine
  • Scissors
  • Iron and ironing board

Ask Casa: Displaying Vintage Aprons

Hello CasaSugar, I have a collection of perfect condition '50s aprons.

Hello CasaSugar,

I have a collection of perfect condition '50s aprons. These things are cute! I would love to display them but I have no idea how. I have a hook that I hang my everyday apron on, but I don't think 10 aprons would look good on that! If you have any suggestions I would appreciate it!

Cool Idea: Aprons Outside the Kitchen

While I'm not a fan of retro ideas about housework falling to women, I have happily embraced one remnant from days of household cleaning past: the apron.

While I'm not a fan of retro ideas about housework falling to women, I have happily embraced one remnant from days of household cleaning past: the apron. While most everyone associates aprons with kitchen work and baking projects, I've found them to be incredibly helpful when cleaning the house. I used to change clothes before tackling a big housecleaning job, but now I just tie on a cute apron, like this Flirty Everyday Housewife Apron ($29) from Etsy seller Momomadeit.

Etsy Find: Spring Cleaning Apron

If your home is looking so fresh and so clean, but your clothes are getting trashed in the process, I've got a great solution for you: wear an apron.

If your home is looking so fresh and so clean, but your clothes are getting trashed in the process, I've got a great solution for you: wear an apron. I admit that I have a substantial collection of vintage and vintage-look aprons, and tying one on before I start a massive cleaning project makes me feel better prepared for the task ahead. This Spring Apron ($30) from Etsy seller DecorativeInstincts comes with an oven mitt, which is definitely more YumSugar's territory, but hey, once you get your house clean, you could try for true domestic goddess sainthood and whip up some cupcakes, right?

Last month's top commenter is long-time TeamSugar member celebrity_soup. She loves sharing her recipes and always has something to say. When asked about chicken for dinner, she said:

I always make this chicken on weekends, it's very versatile. Leftovers can later be used to make just about anything with chicken.

And when asked about lychees, she said:

I LOVE lychees, i eat them all the time here in Africa. They are available mostly at summertime, i pop around 20 something in minutes. They are so sweet and juicy! yummmmm!

For being our top talker, celebrity_soup is going to receive a YumSugar apron! Congrats celebrity_soup!

There are many things that excite me about CasaSugar, and one of them is the site's logo.

There are many things that excite me about CasaSugar, and one of them is the site's logo. I absolutely love the salmon and brown color palette. (It's okay for me to brag about it, since I didn't design it.) Anyway, I'm pleased to announce that the ShopSugar store on CafePress is now stocking CasaSugar gear!

There are tons of cute clothes (I particularly like the ringer tee) as well as lots of home-related goodies, like CasaSugar mugs, tote bags for eco-friendly shopping, aprons, and coasters. If you buy something, don't forget to share it in the Show Us Your Sugar group.
