8 Totally Girly, Pink Back-to-School (or Work!) Supplies
With September upon us, some of you are heading back to school or maybe you're getting your children ready for a new school year. Others may be winding down Summer vacations and may appreciate some fun desk accessories to help refocus on work. To that end, I've rounded up some of my favorite girly, pink school and office supplies! From bright, bold desk chairs to sweet note cards, here are a few feminine finds that will keep a smile on your face while you're toiling away.
Making the Most of Your Tiny Desk
Whether you're in the process of sprucing up a small office or you're about to head off to college, having a comfortable work space at your home base is integral. We all know there's nothing worse than being stressed when you're on the heels of a huge project or you're trying to cram the night before a big exam, and clutter on your desk only creates more stress. You may be glued to your desk at your day job, or if you're a college-aged kid, you may be planning to live at the library, but having a space to work from home, regardless of size, can make your life far easier.
For all the working women, I love this Sort and the City Desk Organizer ($30). It's a great way to keep files together, and I love the wooden cosmopolitan scene. Its unassuming color would be a great addition to any desk. For the collegiate ladies out there, I'm a huge fan of the USB Tulip Hub ($22). These little guys will be your best friend at the library when you're working on a paper or preparing to print. Instead of a boring design, mix it up with this portal pot of tulips.
You may be tempted to fill up that desk with tchotchkes, trinkets, and a million framed photos, but take a step back and re-examine the scenario. Instead of the cluttered chaos, choose practical office accessories with flair!
Karim Rashid, World-Renowned Tape Dispenser
World-renowned designer Karim Rashid knows no boundaries. The man has designed everything from bathtubs for couples to an Athenian hotel to a dustbuster. Come across any product with his name on it and you can expect it to be curvy, sensual, contemporary, and very likely pink — one of only two colors that he wears. His latest pièce de résistance doesn't have as much sex appeal as a Greek getaway or an erotic spa tub, but it is unique nonetheless: 3M has commissioned Rashid to reimagine two of its hallmark products, the Post-It note and Scotch tape.
The Pebble Collection by Karim includes a pop-up Post-It note dispenser ($10.50) and a Scotch tape dispenser ($8) with river rock shapes, made of contemporary, glossy plastic. The designs are weighted — very much so, in fact — to make for facile, one-handed tape- and adhesive-note-retrieval. Most might not want to "splurge" on such basic office supplies, but if you're the type who tapes away and jots down notes all day, or the type who likes to show off to co-workers, it might make your day more pleasurable. Plus, they're much cheaper than Karim's Veuve Clicquot Love Seat, which would cost you $10,000.
Roundup: Sweet 'n Girly Office Accessories
Whether you're going for glitz and glam or something more comfy and floral, a pretty office needs girly accessories to complete the look. Sometimes something little can spruce up your desktop, like a blooming bowl for holding paperclips and knickknacks, a sky-blue knitted cup for your pencils, or a delicate brocade letter sorter for sweet thank-you notes. If you're looking to dress up your work space, see the desk supplies I've rounded up below. Source
Sale Alert: See Jane Work Tax Time Sale
Hip, hip, hooray! It's tax time! OK, paying taxes may not be fun (unless you're expecting a big return), but you can ease the discomfort with a little savings. See Jane Work, the ultimate cutest place for office supplies, is running its Tax Time Sale through tomorrow, offering 25 percent off orders when you enter the code SPRING at checkout. Perk up your home office with some stylish supplies while you can! I'm loving this White Crocodile Leather Dictionary ($180) and these Monogram Paperweights ($16.25).
15 Under $15: The Home Office
Want to infuse your home office space with some updated style? You don't have to spend a million to have it looking that way. I've found 15 home office items that will help you get organized for under $15.
Love It or Hate It? Shut Up Tape
If only my parents had gotten their hands on the Atypyk Shut-Up Tape ($13) when I was young, I might have had a shot at being a well-behaved kid. Ironically, this photo pretty much speaks for itself. You can go the "traditional" route and use it to seal some boxes when you're moving, or just use it to put your friends, family, or captives in place.

Film Trivia Fun With Office Supplies

Next time you're looking for a way to kill some time at work, check out Stationery Movies, a funny little web site where office supplies—staplers, Post-Its, highlighters, you name it—conspire to recreate classic films. The photos alone are pretty damn hilarious, but there's also a game involved. The site presents 20 cryptic movie scenes, and you have to guess what movie the office supplies are re-enacting. Just type the movie name into the box, which will turn green if you are correct. It's definitely not easy, so give it a shot and let me know how you did.
