Made from enameled cast iron, the sleek, candy-colored sinks are perfect for adding a cheery dose of color in an unexpected way. Offered in four colorways — Greenwich Green, Piccadilly Yellow, Palermo Blue, and Annapolis Navy — the sinks feel refreshingly bold yet timeless. We love the way they pop in a white kitchen!

Jonathan Adler Handbags Fall 2012

>>Jonathan Adler stuck to his guns when designing the second season of his new handbag collection, imbuing every tote, clutch, and purse with the same savoir faire that guides his eclectic line of home goods.

"It really made sense to me to take some of my motifs and themes, and I think they translate perfectly into the fashion category," said Adler, who's been selling pottery since 1994. "The handbags address the same issues I address when I make a pot. It's form, pattern, color — and I just kind of had a burning desire to do it."

That desire has turned into an interesting and forward-thinking collection of bags that espouse Adler's happy, pop aesthetic. For Fall, that means handbags that combine geometric patterned knitwear with leather accents and a tote that advocates for peace on one side and love on the other. Pricing details for the Fall collection weren't available as of this post, but the Spring bags sold from $38 to $250.

Adler, who collaborated with Lacoste on a line of polo shirts for Spring, says he's going to keep on making things as long as he can — and he's not counting out the possibility of a ready-to-wear collection.

"The more I make, the more I want to make, so I never say never to anything," he said, adding that he thinks his clothing line "would be colorful and happy and — I hope — unimpeachably chic and beautifully crafted." Just like his bags.

Jonathan Adler's Tips For Stealing Auntie Mame's Style

If you haven't noticed, I'm often inspired by set design.

If you haven't noticed, I'm often inspired by set design. So it comes as no surprise that designers and other interiors enthusiasts would feel the same way. Jonathan Adler recently let the Wall Street Journal in on a little secret: one of his favorite rooms isn't a room at all, but the film set of 1958 film Auntie Mame, starring Rosalind Russell. Watching the swanky midcentury movie, he tells reporter Jen Renzi, is "a right of passage for every aspiring decorator."

As Elle Decor describes her in another article, "Mame Dennis redecorates as often as she changes her dress (or colors her hair, for that matter). She’s a fearless designer and her apartment wafts from Danish Modern to Far Eastern in the film’s time." That sense of adventure in design is what Adler gravitates toward: "When designing for clients," he says, "I like to channel their inner Auntie Mame, to make them appear just a little more glamorous and eccentric than they are."

Hiring Adler on as your interior designer is the surest route to an eccentric and glamorous home, but if that's not in the cards, he's offered five tips to get the look of the film:

  1. Have multiple seating zones.
  2. Never sacrifice comfort for style.
  3. Embrace folly.
  4. Separate with screens.
  5. Long and low is always chic.

Before and After: Jonathan Adler's Proud Peacock Design

Jonathan Adler recently posted this peacock design on his Facebook page.

Jonathan Adler recently posted this peacock design on his Facebook page. I love the bird's graceful lines and long, swooping tail. (And seriously: don't you want to see that peacock don the mustache in the background?) The peacock looks gorgeous in its natural clay state, but it looks positively glam after glazing. Keep reading to see the final result and to find out about this decorative object's very no-nonsense function.

Guess Where Lucite Was Used During World War II?

Lucite celebrates its 75th birthday this year.
Lucite celebrates its 75th birthday this year. The clear, durable material has been used since the 1930s for a variety of purposes, including as jewelry and furniture. But During World War II, it was used for several different purposes, including as windshields, on one piece of integral military equipment. Can you guess what this major piece of equipment was? (Hint: decades later the Beatles sang about a sunshine-colored one.)
