HomeGoods recently conducted a survey about how Americans live in their homes and found, among many other shocking tidbits, that 47 percent of Americans haven't updated their home decor in the last five years — and nine percent haven't in more than 10 years.

HomeGoods recently conducted a survey about how Americans live in their homes and found, among many other shocking tidbits, that 47 percent of Americans haven't updated their home decor in the last five years — and nine percent haven't in more than 10 years.

I, on the other hand, am constantly updating my apartment's interiors and make a major change at least once a year. So imagine my surprise.

Since the population polled was Americans aged 18 and older, the age range isn't very narrow. I'd be interested to hear more specifically about what demographic isn't switching up their design scheme, or if the statistics really do apply to all Americans.

Common sense tells me that women of my mother's generation rarely redecorate, while younger folk are still in the process of decorating their first homes to begin with — especially since they often move around and can be in a lower income bracket.

Now I'm curious to get a sense of how often you all redecorate? Keeping in mind that 90 percent of Sugar's readers tend to be between 18 and 49 years old, it'll be interesting to see if the results are in line with HomeGoods's findings!

For my third and final tablescape, I decided to assemble a table that would be appropriate for the Winter holidays. Specifically, I was imagining a buffet-style light dinner, followed by an evening house party that involved a lot of dancing with friends. Like my dinner and a movie tablescape, I decorated primarily with HomeGoods items (our $1,000 giveaway launches today!), as well as a few other grocery-store-sourced items. Last week, I shared a Napa-inspired al fresco tablescape with you. As you might remember, I'm putting together three tablescapes as part of our $1,000 giveaway with HomeGoods, which launches tomorrow! LilSugar is creating two tablescapes, and here's her latest, an arts-and-crafts-inspired kids' table. While I cobbled together my first tablescape using elements that I had at hand, for this tablescape I used pieces donated by HomeGoods, along with a few other grocery-store-procured items. While putting together this tablescape, I imagined an intimate holiday dinner for a couple, eaten at a coffee table with a romantic movie. Check out the details!
