Bob and Cortney headed down to Orlando, FL to add some life to a needy elementary school — a project they said was their most challenging of the season. While the design duo gave the school a $50,000 makeover, many of their tips can be easily incorporated into private homes to create inspiring playrooms for your own tots. Check them out!

The Novogratzes Transform a Tiny Bedroom Into a Triplet Oasis

If there's one thing a family can never have enough of, it's space.

If there's one thing a family can never have enough of, it's space. While living in a small space can force families to cut down on the clutter and carefully edit their toys, kids will inevitably feel constrained by limited areas. Bob and Cortney Novogratz know all about small homes. The designing duo, and stars of HGTV's Home by Novogratz have lived in and around New York City with their seven kids.

In an upcoming episode of their show, the couple helps a friend-of-a-friend convert a small Hell's Kitchen, NYC, bedroom into a clean, functional room for 4-year-old triplets. Quite a bit more modern than the San Francisco 2010 Decorator Showcase, take a sneak peek at the room, and see what the designers used to make it functional and fun for the tykes.

If you tuned in last Saturday to see Home by Novogratz, you know that the Bob and Cortney are creating decorating magic on their new HGTV show. This Saturday, the couple create a multipurpose family room perfect for a family's three kids — and their parents. Cortney and Robert take their city-chic design chops to the Everett family home in suburban New Jersey to renovate a basement divided into a playroom for the kids and a home theater and entertainment area for the parents. Check out this preview for a few images from tomorrow night's episode. There are some great ideas for kids, but I'm sharing the more mature decorating ideas with you today. Tune in to HGTV at 10/9 CDT tomorrow night for all of the details!

Sneak Peek: Rue Magazine Issue 5!

Rue Magazine issue five hits virtual newsstands on Monday, May 23, and I am pleased to share an exclusive sneak peek with you!

Rue Magazine issue five hits virtual newsstands on Monday, May 23, and I am pleased to share an exclusive sneak peek with you! Featured in the upcoming issue is a budget-friendly project from design and developer duo Robert and Cortney Novogratz, of 9 by Design fame. Their firm Sixx Design was hired by a young couple just starting their lives in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and you'll see the evolution of this project on their upcoming HGTV show, Home by Novogratz, which premieres this Summer.

I love how they've given what seems like a cookie-cutter modern kitchen (with gorgeous zebrawood cabinets) a much more lived-in and historical look with vintage furnishings. The colorful, worn, industrial metal stools and bar cart juxtapose beautifully with the shiny new modern appliances, and the delicate, crystal chandelier lends a feminine style to the masculine interior.

The deity artwork above this white cabinet has an eccentric, thrifted look that's quintessential to the Novogratz style; I can just imagine them unearthing it in a Manhattan flea market. The only thing that puzzles me is this mauve appliance — is that a bread box? I guess we'll find out when the issue goes live on Monday! Can't wait to flip through the whole magazine!
