Roundup: Pumpkins and Gourds

There's no more appropriate vegetable to decorate with in the Fall than pumpkins and gourds.

There's no more appropriate vegetable to decorate with in the Fall than pumpkins and gourds. From pumpkins pulled straight from the patch to gourd-like decorating objects crafted from silver or clay, the pumpkin's shape is synonymous with Autumn. Right now, I'm particularly loving Terrain's Ruby Pumpkin ($24). Made with gourd stems harvested by local farmers, the pumpkins' bodies are crafted from rich velvet fabric and available in a variety of earth tones.

SGS1's Lovely Little Fall Vignette

Lovely Little Vignettes member SGS1 was inspired by Kimpossible's Fall decorating scheme to get to work on her own. The result is beautiful and chic! I love how she's mixed various shapes and colors of seasonal gourds. Her branches of berries really fill out the mantel and give it depth. The reflective quality of SGS1's mirror and glass candlesticks, vases, and votives really make the arrangement elegant. There's a tendency for seasonal décor to look kitschy, but she's managed to avoid that altogether.

Do You Decorate With Gourds?

I love the funky shapes, colors, and textures of Fall gourds.

I love the funky shapes, colors, and textures of Fall gourds. Clustered in a bowl, or stacked in a tall vase, they make a great centerpiece in lieu of flowers. Do you regularly buy them for Fall decorating?

It's only Tuesday, but I'm already looking forward to the multitude of festivals this weekend.

There are so many in the Bay Area alone that I can't decide whether to hit up the Santana Row Pear Festival, the Half Moon Bay Art & Pumpkin Festival, or the Monterey Wine Festival. I suppose I might just rock them all!

Have we left something out? If so, please drop us a line in the comments below!
