It was nearly three years ago that I started to see the Moroccan trend taking the world by storm. From poufs to Moorish horseshoe-shaped arches to ornate embroidery, the design details of North Africa have swept many of us off our feet. While a whole room decorated in this theme wouldn't suit my tastes, I am still smitten with many Moroccan-inspired designs. In fact, I'm seriously considering ordering the Marrakech Bedding ($48-$168) from Garnet Hill — which also boasts my beloved green and persimmon palette. How about you? Are you over it? Were you ever into it?
I spotted these Boardwalk Side Tables ($640) at Garnet Hill and loved their cheerful hues, but was astounded to see that they cost over $600 each! "Are they made of gold?" I thought. Nope. Just solid poplar and maple. According to the product description, each table is individually built by "an experienced craftsman," but still — absurd! The tables are cute and classic, but they don't even have drawers or any other feature that makes them worthy of the steep price tag. And I would imagine one would eventually tire of the color, and want to switch things up.
Luckily, this table is an easy peasy DIY. Want to see a very similar table that costs under $40?
From now through Jan. 12, save big on everything from bedding to rugs and more at Garnet Hill in the store's Winter Clearance Sale. There are plenty of great deals. I love these John Robshaw Trellis Percale Sheets (originally $168, now on sale for $114). These Bamboo Bath Accessories (originally $28 to $68, now on sale for $18 to $44) would also be great for organizing your bathroom. Be sure to check out the whole sale for deals on rugs, quilts, and much more!
Palm Beach prep is coming home. Pink and green queen Lilly Pulitzer will debut a new home goods collection for Garnet Hill in January. The line will include bedding and bath accessories in her signature happy chic colors. Bedding designs will include "Truly Lilly, " "
Classic Lilly," and "Trend Lilly" with sheets, quilts, comforter covers, shams, pillow covers, coverlets, and bedskirts. The bath designs will include a shower curtain in starfruit yellow; Chinoiserie towels in hibiscus pink, starfruit yellow and surf blue; a Chinoiserie tufted bath rug in hibiscus pink, starfruit yellow and surf blue, and a juice stand shower curtain in turquoise.
This isn't the first time Lilly has entered the interiors business. The company has had other bedding collections, but they've ceased production. From this sneak peek image of the collection, it seems to be much more contemporary. And the quilting is beautiful!
When my aunt was growing up, she bought a stack of quilting fabric squares from her local Lilly shop in Palm Beach and sewed her very own Lilly Pulitzer quilt. To this day, she still owns it and I've always been covetous. I guess now she won't be the only one with a Palm Beach princess bedroom.
While I do love my patterned shower curtain, I think having a solid white curtain would create more of a spa-like atmosphere, combined with perhaps a teak bathmat, etc. The Eileen Fisher Sheer Linen Shower Curtain ($79, reduced from $128) certainly does the trick. Its delicate woven pure linen has a healthy, organic vibe to it, and its reinforced buttonholes omit the need for industrial-looking shower curtain rings. I love the way the curtains look all bunched up together here. I'd love to use more than one curtain to achieve a similar bunched and draped effect. What do you think?
Who says shower parties should be reserved for brides and mommies-to-be? You can have your own party in the shower with this festive Garnet Hill Ribbon Shower Curtain ($54, reduced from $78). Made from streamers of vibrant grosgrain ribbons, this shower curtain has all the celebratory style of a b-day fiesta, short of a piñata. Choose from a bright multistripe palette or cool blue sea glass stripes, or use both and throw a wild and crazy bash every time you lather up. Why not drink and rinse while you're at it? A glass of wine in the tub never hurt anyone.
Garnet Hill is currently offering 30 percent off all of the towels in the shop. I know that my towels have seen far, far better days, so I'll definitely be hitting up this sale. Some of you may be expecting guests for the holidays, so perhaps you should consider giving them a fresh bath sheet to dry off with. There are also some cute hooded towels in animal shapes that might make good gifts for any kids you know.
One surefire way to hold onto Summer, even after it's bid you adieu, is to introduce accents with a subtle, beachy motif into your home. Just because the leaves may be turning, and you're keeping an extra layer handy when you leave the house, doesn't mean you can't have a reminder of Summer close to home. The Hable Sand Dollar Quilt ($128 -$134) and Sham ($14) will prolong the season with their cheerful, but muted, turquoise and green tones and sand-dollar motif, whilst keeping you warm. And, on sale, they'll do so without breaking the bank. If you're the type who likes to inject warm tones into your home come Fall, consider snatching these up and saving them for the Spring. Better safe than sorry!
If you've got a beach house to furnish, a colorful, Chace Crawford-style lawn chair by your pool or in the sand will give your home an instant taste of the season. But, if you're a city mouse, you can still capture the Summer style of a day at the beach with colorful lounge chairs printed on your bedding. The Garnet Hill Beach Break Percale Bedding ($25-$125) is printed with original watercolor artwork on 200 thread count. The printed lounge chairs have fun seasonal motifs like sailboats, watermelons, and seashells in cheery reds, pinks, blues, and greens. Now if you could only get Chace Crawford to take a siesta, too . . .
Since the advent of Summer is fast approaching, I thought I'd focus on two elements that are crucial to your experience at home this season — gardens and parties! The Garnet Hill Hungarian Baby Bathtub ($159, from $228) will serve up plants in the garden or drinks at parties all Summer long. You can get creative with it and use it in the bathroom to store towels. It'll fit in anywhere, really! The authentic antique tub, made of enameled porcelain, is sure to add vintage charm to your home, regardless of how you use it. I'm liking the idea of champagne though . . . .
