Every animal has its proverbial day in the sun, and right now, the sly fox, like the owl before him, is soaking it in! The hippest of the woodland creatures (which also inspired one of the coolest parties of the Fall) is popping up everywhere: on kids' leggings, pajamas, dresses, and tees; on bedding and kid-friendly artwork; on puzzles and stuffed animals; and even in one of 2012's best apps. We tracked down 14 kid-friendly, on-trend fox finds; keep clicking to find your favorite!
The russet-toned fur of a fox, darting through harvested November corn fields, is one of my enduring memories from childhood. The woodland creature's beautiful red coat and graceful shape has inspired centuries of art and design, including Winslow Homer's painting The Fox Hunt, which hangs at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia. I've found some fox-inspired housewares and artwork on Etsy that will bring you some fantastic foxiness to your abode.
Start your collection with this Fantastic Mr. Fox Pillow ($83) from Etsy seller angharadjefferson. This awesome vintage '60s fabric has been embellished with a cool fox pattern by the artist, using a combination of hand embroidery and freehand machine drawing. Cat and fox are sittin' on a couch, k-i-s-s-i-n-g. Well, actually, it's the cat who's doin' all the loving. He's like the Pepe Le Pew of felines. "Mon cheri foxy, I looove you. (Mwah, mwah, mwah!) Eet ees a delight to haf you in my arms!" My favorite parts are when the fox's superbig ears go up like radars, and the look on the cat's face when foxy finally scrams. Sucks to be a lover in a world filled with the unromantic.
