Only two days left until New Year's! Cher has made a few million jaws drop with her over-the-top, wildly creative outfits. There is no such thing as too much for Cher, and while her style is a hard act to follow in daily life (unless your name is Lady Gaga), we happily use Cher as inspiration for a dressed-to-the-nines New Year's look. Mix a glittering sequin dress with these feather earrings ($21), or a feather dress and a gold sequin jacket ($500) for a gorgeously styled look that won't feel like a costume.
Over a year ago, I picked up a pink velvet throw pillow screen-printed in gold with a feather (at right) on sale at a San Francisco boutique for $14. Since then, I've always wondered who made it, and I haven't seen it anywhere else. As it turns out, the pillow sells for over 10 times more than I bought it — score! It's also available in a variety of colors and with other imagery printed on it, such as a deer, a lobster, and chainlink. Want to see where you can buy one? Then read more
Domino has a wonderful slideshow of table settings to inspire your holiday decorating, each image more stunning than the next. I was particularly taken with this setting, which is given a dramatic oomph thanks to a vase filled with rich brown pheasant feathers. The space is otherwise very simple . . . a white table cloth, white walls, no curtains on the windows, white dinner plates with a subtle brown toile trim. But, the feather arrangement creates an instant focal point and gives it fall appeal. Of course, turkey, not their feathered pheasant friends, will be the feast on Nov. 27, but I can't help but say this setting would be parfait for your Thanksgiving party.
