Cool Idea: Create a Gallery of Playful Faux Taxidermy
Dutch stylist Barbara Groen was recently featured on Decor8, and I'm in love with Groen's work. She creates delightfully modern vignettes, some more whimsical than others. I love the effect of clustering a collection of animal heads, but I'm really inspired by how gold streamers capture the look of gilded antique frames. So much fun!

Would you ever dare to create such a whimsical wall art collection at your home?

More Tips on DIY-ing Your Trophy Mount
Did you read my DIY on how to get the look of a trophy mount in your home for under $50? If you like the idea of adding a deer head (a humane, no-animals-harmed deer head, that is) to your wall, take a look at these tips for making your DIY a work of art.
DIY: Book-Wrapped Trophy Mount
Over a year and a half ago, I ordered a Styrofoam taxidermy mount with the intention of finishing it in some fun, unexpected way. Then the mount sat in my garage for over a year while I attended to other projects. Just a few months ago, I finally got around to finishing the mount. If you admire the look of the trophy heads you've seen everywhere from Anthropologie to Neiman Marcus, but don't want to spend upwards of $600 on something that may be a trend, you can DIY your own for under $50. Here's how.
What You'll Need:
- Styrofoam Deer Mount like this one (you can order other animal shapes, but they're often a lot more expensive). While this one is listed at $40, I found one on sale for $12, so shop around.
- Mod Podge
- Thin paper for covering the head (college readers, dictionaries, and other large books work well)
- Paintbrush
- Branches
- Swiss army or whittling knife
- Paint
- Masking Tape
- Newspaper
A White Painted Lion's Head For Less
Here's a post from CasaSugar Community member drlenz08 from the Su Casa group:

You can call me crazy but I have been completely obsessed with the all white animal heads on the wall similar to the ones at Z Gallerie. Now, I know that this is not everyone's cup of tea, and according to my interior designer friend, I have an eclectic sense of style. I just love the rhinos in this room both on the wall and on the coffee table!
Now as much as I love these crazy animals I really do not love the price! Seriously Z Gallerie, you want me to pay close to $200 for an animal head? I don't think so. I am not that insane!
So I have been searching high and low for an alternative way of doing this. I looked at some second-hand stores, Goodwill, and even HomeGoods for what felt like months in search of something similar. Then I hit the jackpot about two to three weeks ago at my local HomeGoods.
To learn how she DIY'd a pricey lion's head for much, much less, keep reading!
