Cool Idea: La Toilette in Disguise

British designer Cath Kidston opens up her colorful London home in Lonny magazine's latest issue, giving us a feeling for why she's named the "Queen of Florals."

British designer Cath Kidston opens up her colorful London home in Lonny magazine's latest issue, giving us a feeling for why she's named the "Queen of Florals." But the talented designer that she is, she knows her boundaries and when to say no to powerful patterns.

In an effort to turn her bathroom into a retreat, she doused the walls in serene white paint. Then, she went the extra mile to disguise the unseemly facilities that give the lavatory its name. She started by hiding the sink in a cupboard with doors that can be shut when not in use. Then, she cleverly designed a slipper-style chair around the toilet to camouflage it. All that's left is a gorgeous roll-top tub and a luxurious towel warmer . . . and who ever would complain about those?

Inspired: Let's Go Camping (With Style)

I love looking at vintage images of camping from days-gone-by.

I love looking at vintage images of camping from days-gone-by. It wasn't all about internal frame backpacks and super-efficient filtering pumps in those days. Instead, it looked like more of a glamorous party, staged in the woods! I'm completely down with that scenario.

Luckily, not everyone has gone gearhead when it comes to tenting it. Take, for example, Cath Kidston's amazing Box Floral Teepee (about $200).

Love It or Leave It

Cath Kidston Floral Digital Radio: Love It or Leave It?

I am unapologetically behind the declaration that I consider myself a girly-girl.

I am unapologetically behind the declaration that I consider myself a girly-girl. I don't always love pink gadgets, but I don't always hate them either. But I have a line. This Cath Kidston DAB digital Roberts radio is currently walking my line.

I just don't know if precious-looking roses mix with my digital electronics, but, on the other hand, the radio in a plain color would have a vintage look — which, of course, the rose print owns. But. Still totally conflicted. What do you say?

Designer Spotlight: Cath Kidston

Cath Kidston creates undeniably girly stuff for people who aren't really into girly stuff.

Cath Kidston creates undeniably girly stuff for people who aren't really into girly stuff. The U.K. designer of textiles, wallpaper, clothing, kitchenware, and home accessories has developed a distinctive, vintage-inspired look, with florals and other patterns that are funky and feminine.

Her designs feel at once once old-fashioned and also adorably modern, so walking into a Cath Kidston boutique is like entering a space that exists in its own kitschy era. Since opening her first store in London's Notting Hill district in 1992, Kidston has expanded her empire to include 11 more shops in the U.K. and one in Tokyo. This month, Cath Kidston will be unveiling a new online store for U.S. customers; until then, check out my finds from the U.K. site by clicking on the photos below.

Fab Finding Follow Up: A New Umbrella

Spring weather is around the corner, and for some of us it is already here.

Spring weather is around the corner, and for some of us it is already here. I think I am overdue to purchase a fun new umbrella! I already love these rainbow colored petite Samsonite® Pocket Trimline Umbrellas, $18.95. They are small enough to fit in my handbag so I always have one on me in case of surprise stormy weather. I asked you all to Fab Find and share your favorite umbrellas. To see all the fabulous umbrella finds click here.

Umbrella #1, found by jke is this cheerful Cath Kidston Birdcage - Bubble Rose umbrella. I think it would certainly put a smile on my face on a gloomy, rainy day.

Fab Site: Cath Kidston

British designer Cath Kidston takes patterns and colors that would be at home in your grandma's kitchen and turns them into surprisingly hip, modern must-haves.

British designer Cath Kidston takes patterns and colors that would be at home in your grandma's kitchen and turns them into surprisingly hip, modern must-haves. At first glance, her vintage-inspired housewares and accessories may not seem like your style, but I challenge you to walk into one of her 11 boutiques—including nine in the U.K., one in New York, and one in L.A.—and leave without buying something for yourself or as a gift. It simply can't be done; the stuff is just too cute. I highly recommend checking out one of her stores if you get the chance, but in the meantime, Kidston has a fabulous web site that ships to the U.S. Here are my picks from the online store.

Pop Flowers Apron, about $34, available here.

Strawberry Blue Napkins (Set of 4), about $28, available here.
