You may remember interior designer Sheila Bridges from our Designer Spotlight or from Domino and ELLE Decor, or her spot on the Fine Living network. Voted one of America's best designers, she can transform any space with a bold use of color and whimsical accents, while maintaining a traditional sensibility. She doesn't reserve these techniques solely for her clients though; her Harlem apartment is perhaps the best illustration of her knack for design. New York Social Diary not so recently had an interesting interview with Sheila and captured many wonderful images of her Harlem apartment. My favorite room by far has to be her study, which she had painted with quotes from her favorite books. But there are wonderful, creative touches and patterns everywhere, which refuse to let your eyes rest. Take a peek at this slideshow to see it, and be sure to read the interview.

Hanging Harry ($14) is a bathroom light pull made of silicone rubber that comes with a noose and two meters of rope. I certainly would never welcome this product into my home; the shadow on the wall alone gives me shivers. Would you? I'd rather stick with a plain ole length of twine . . .
Rumor has it that Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner are house-hunting. Word is that they took a gander at Meg Ryan's Stradella Road property in Bel Air, which Victoria and David Beckham reportedly bid and bailed on last year. The seven-bedroom, six-bathroom house house is up for $20 million (!), and along with multiple living quarters, boasts ocean views, a games room, private gym and sauna, swimming pool and massive back garden. It also features extensive security features, including an 11-foot electronic gate, and eight-foot perimeter wall. Another perk, if the lovely couple and their daughter Violet decide to call the manse home, Tom Ford, who lives in a Richard Neutra-designed home, will be their neighbor. Hi Casa,
Just a quick question: do you happen to know of any online or otherwise stores in Canada (or that delivers to Canada) for pendant lights under $100? Sorry, I know this is a pretty specific question, but I can't seem to come up with anything. - Tdamji
Carriage Crib: Kid Friendly or Are You Kidding?
All parents hope their children will live happily ever after, but this carriage crib is straight out of a fairytale. Equipped with a rear changing table, this pricey piece of furniture, sold at Petit Tresor for $14,899, is a place for lil princes and princesses to rest their heads.
Kris Shanks is a plein air landscape painter and woodblock printmaker working in the wine country of Sonoma County in Northern California.
Kris writes that "Painting landscapes plein air, directly from the subject, is a way for me to connect with the natural world. The experience of being immersed in one’s subject, taking in the sounds and smells of a landscape even as I’m trying to capture the visual essence of the view, is a dynamic and energizing experience. Painting outside forces me to work quickly to capture fleeting colors and shadow patterns as the light changes. My work seeks to capture a particular moment in time, and as such they are artifacts of my process of bearing witness to the landscape. I’m interested in the dynamic tension between creating an illusion of space while maintaining the viewer’s awareness of a flat, paint-covered surface. I hope that when someone looks at my paintings they have a sense of the place I painted, but also that they maintain an awareness that somebody made this object, that you see the marks of the brush, and the interplay of line, color and shape on a surface."
