For this week's Casa Craving Challenge I asked you to tag gorgeous velvet furniture that inspired winter hibernation. I was inspired by the drop in temperatures and the rainy days we've had here in in San Francisco, which had me feeling like a hermit. All I wanted to do was curl up on some gorgeous piece of furniture, sip some peppermint tea, and watch the rain from the safe confines of my home.
Casa readers took up the challenge and rounded up some great velvet furniture. Take a look at the widget below for all of the great finds.
I love everything about this Napoleon Sideboard ($1,995). Okay — that's a lie. I don't love its price. But everything else about this sideboard, from its distressed black finish to its grace-imbued lines to its antique brass hardware, has me craving it something fierce. While it's definitely out of my budget at the moment, I'm going to have to keep my eye out for a similar one the next time I stop by the Alameda Flea Market.
Do you find this romantic sideboard as crave worthy as I do?
Earlier this week, I told you about a town that is rebuilding green after it was nearly wiped off the map by a tornado. What I didn't mention is that Leonardo Dicaprio is producing a television series about the town, tentatively titled "Eco-Town." The town is named Greensburg. Can you tell me what state the town is located in?
The Governors Ball Will Be a Sea of Red and Gold Last week, I gave you a sneak peek at all the delicious food that will be served at the Governors Ball, and this week I'm here to share a gallery of the look. The ball, which is being produced by Cheryl Cecchetto of Sequoia Productions, has been inspired by the fact that it's Oscars 80th anniversary. This year it's all about the gold of the Oscar and the red of the red carpet.
I think my favorite type of Steal of the Day has got to be the accent pillows. Take this Crate and Barrel Santorini Pillow ($16.95), for example. For less than 17 bucks, you can reinvent your room with a fresh punch of tonal green or teal and a graphic pattern that'll keep your eye moving. Getting sick of them? Store 'em and switch in a different pair. Easy (and cheap) as pie.
The owners of Hazelnut New Orleans, the Casa Shop you met yesterday, don't reserve their interior styling skills for their magasin on Magazine Street. Tom Cianfichi and Bryan Batt, who you may recognize from his role on AMC's Mad Men, are both actors with a knack for interiors and have dressed their Garden District carriage house to the nines in a daring mélange of modern classics (Barcelona chair, Louis Ghost chair), bold colors ('70s avocado walls, a beaded blood-orange chandelier), and thrifty finds (a Salvation Army sofa) that only bona fide creatives could see the potential in. The New York Times has an interesting feature about this duo's design evolution with photos of their home that will floor (or shag carpet) you. Source
Love Shack Month doesn't only apply to the bedroom or a romantic tablescape. You've got to have love in your kitchen, too. These Appetite Home Hearts Dishtowels ($12 for 2) are just the thing to get that fire burning in the cucina, emotionally speaking. They're 100 percent cotton and hand screenprinted with hearts in nontoxic red and pink inks, completely usable, and washable. A simple way to turn up the heat in your home. Just make sure not to scorch your dinner.
