You may have noticed some numbers surrounded by chasing-arrow symbols on consumer packaging like water bottles, plastic bags, bottle caps, toys, etc. If you have, good! That's step one. But, do you know what they mean? Contrary to what you may think, these icons do not mean that the products can be recycled, or that they're made of recycled plastic; they actually identify which types of plastic a product is made of. Once you know this, you can determine if it can be recycled or not. Unfortunately, not all plastic can be recycled. Most recycling centers accept types one and two, types four and five are less commonly recycled, and types six and seven are rarely, if not virtually never, recycled. For a rundown, read more
Scallops? Rivets? Anthropologie is right on for saying their Lady Chair ($1,498) reminds them of a French Madeleine cookie. All sweets aside, the chair looks très comfortable, and that's what's most important when I sit down to read Victor Hugo or watch Jean-Paul Belmondo on screen. The shell shape of the chair (and Madeleines) would be quite appropriate for the beach, perhaps along with some trendy natural curiosities, but I'd plop this natural linen chair down anywhere in the house. Do you love it?
Even though I think the results in the home pictured here are stunning, I'm still hesitant to put something this dark on my walls. What about you? Source
I recently showed you some lighting and furniture that will help you to get the look of a colorful and portable rooftop environment. Well, a functional and comfortable rooftop can't be achieved without accessories and textiles, too. To hear about them, read more
. . . JN Stardust!
Congratulations to JN Stardust, who wins this pair of gorgeous Lights Up! Weegee Table Lamps ($176 each for a total prize package worth $352). Now all she has to do is pick out the pattern on the silk shades! I'm feeling a little lamp envy right now; how about you?
Spilling coffee on a freshly dry-cleaned shirt during the morning rush is unfortunately such a recurring mishap for many of us that it's almost a cliché. Seriously — how many Kate Hudson/JLo/Sandra Bullock romantic comedies can you think of where it's a pivotal scene to the plot? If these chick-flick chicks had just had a little advice from yours truly (well, actually from Do It Yourself), they'd have won the guy, the ring, and popped out a first born well before the popcorn intermission. To hear how to send coffee stains to the curb, read more
I found this image on AT:SF, accompanying a post about the advantages of powder-coated metal furniture. While I agree that powder coating is a great way to update old furniture, I'm more in love with this vintage ironing board than I am the concept of powder coating. My favorite bakery, Bakesale Betty, uses the same vintage ironing boards as outdoor tables for customers. Seeing an unexpected element used successfully in a space — be it as a table for dining or as a surface for displaying books — is brilliant indeed. Source
