The September Anthropologie catalog spills over with excessive autumnal spirit. If we are to believe the tastemakers behind the catalog shoot (and why wouldn't we?), Fall 2010 is all about horses, cozy textiles, and overlapping, disparate patterns. Let's see what decorating inspiration we can take away from this month's catalog!
Scandinavian Style: Mjölk CasaSugar Community member DezignerWannabe turns us on to a hip new modern Scandinavian-style interiors shop that recently opened up in Canada!
While paging through stylist Pia Jane Pijkerk's beautiful portfolio, I stopped to take a second look at this shot. While my eyes first stopped on the dapper dog sitting in the armchair, my attention almost immediately wandered to the oversize vase holding the roses. I love the idea of decorating with an oversize vase that doesn't need a tabletop to create a scene.
If you're interested in creating a floor-worthy floral arrangement, start with a good-sized vase, and then extend the height by using tall flowers such as gladiolas to create something statuesque. You don't have to spend a lot of money, either. Take Emily Henderson's tip and use branches instead of flowers, which are cheaper and last much longer than flowers.
For a tall vase that won't cost you an arm and a leg, head to a flea market, discount store, or Ikea to look for a vase two to four feet tall. This Stockholm Vase ($50) is totally chic, two feet tall, and very reasonably priced.
Sandra Bullock chats about baby Louis in her first postdivorce TV interview, Lindsay Lohan says she has never been addicted to prescription drugs, and David Letterman puts Jessica Alba in an uncomfortable position over her Machete costar. Plus, watch Demi Moore dirty dancing on stage with Snoop Dogg and Ashton. Watch today's all-new PopSugar Rush!
If all you need is a place to stash your nightly reading material, perhaps the ES Collection Book Mark ($26) is right up your alley. Essentially a bookshelf and a bookmark in one, the simple, powdercoated steel accessory can be installed on the wall beside your bed, and it will mark your place in your book while holding the book itself. Inspired by the shape of a traditional bookmark, the shelf of sorts, available in white, black, or orange, is cleverly hole punched and embellished with a ribbon.
Could you get by with this über-minimalist nightstand?
You don't have to live in a gated community or a military fortress to have a gate at the entrance of your property. Even if it's only made of simple wooden branches, a gate can be a mental barrier and set the tone for a private, undisturbed experience before you guests even roll down your driveway. Do you have a gated home?
My sister is renovating her master bathroom with Carrara marble flooring, and I'm green with envy. It's silly, I know, but I've always had a soft spot for the hard material. I've been longing to put the CB2 Smart Round Marble Coffee Table ($300) in my living room for ages, but I'm not convinced the round shape is a right fit.
Of course, there are plenty of other options. Adding a custom marble top to a table I already own is one idea I've toyed with. The polished stone instantly adds a luxurious look, so it's a clever way to update a less glamorous table base. From cocktail tables and side tables to credenzas and consoles, I've rounded up some other smart marble tables for you:
