When you’re looking at appliances, there are those features that it’s nice to have – that 78th dryer cycle or the dishwasher that orders its own detergent online. Then there are practical features that make you say “About time!” Like the Jot™ Dry-Erase Refrigerator.
Think about it – no more searching for a notepad for your grocery list or phone messages. And with all that space, you could start illustrating your grocery lists. Or after the third time you came home with blueberries instead of a potato, you could abandon representational art and move on to abstracts. Maybe your interpretation of the nightmare caused by last night’s chili. For more smart ideas like the Jot™, check out Amana.com and see just how neat Amana kitchens can be. Who knows what kind of inspiration you’ll find.
Cost Plus World Market is kicking off a weekend of in-store events and shopping today at its flagship San Francisco store (2552 Taylor Street) to benefit local schools, in celebration of its 50th anniversary, running through Sunday, Oct, 26. Those of you in the Bay Area who stop by will enjoy live entertainment, product giveaways, food and drink samplings, winemaker bottle signings, henna painting, and more. There will also be a live broadcast of KGO-AM’s Gene Burns of “Dining Around With Gene Burns” from the store from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Chef Ryan Scott of Top Chef Season Four will host a cooking demonstration. While it sounds like a great weekend, and I certainly want to attend, I was actually more intrigued to learn about the history of the store. To hear how Cost Plus World Market came to be, read more
Right now, I've been stacking my books à la Sapien Bookcase. But, on a traditional bookcase, I think a mix of stacked and standing books gives a space a casual, not-so-stiff vibe. What about you?Source
Whether you love it or hate it shabby-chic style is here to stay, and you can thank (or berate) Rachel Ashwell for that fact. Ashwell, who created the style almost 20 years ago, went on to found the Shabby Chic home-furnishing store, as well as design slipcovered furniture, bedding, and fabric under the Shabby Chic by Rachel Ashwell label. If you can't get enough of Ashwell's style, then you'll be happy to hear that according to Big Time Listings you can now claim her Los Angeles home for your own, for $4.395 million. It's chock full of shabby chicness, though this seems like a situation you could remedy upon moving in and ponying up the many millions to own this 3,000 square-foot-plus property.

I have a confession to make: I didn't grow any winter squash or pumpkins this year. For some reason, I forgot about this noble and nutritious Fall favorite. This photo, which was taken at the Spargelhof Klaistow farm in Klaistow, Germany, shows off some of the 400 types of pumpkins and squash grown at that farm. While my modest backyard garden wouldn't be able to support more than a few pumpkin varieties, it's inspiring to see the possibilities. Did you grow any pumpkins or winter squash this year? Source
Now through Tuesday, Nov. 11, Ikea is offering up to 20 percent off of kitchen purchases. Those of you who are doing kitchen remodels, listen up! If you spend a minimum of $2,500 on an Ikea kitchen, you will instantly receive 10 percent off your entire purchase. If you add two appliances, you'll save 15 percent off your entire purchase. Add three, save 20 percent. I think there are some pieces, like cabinets, that you may as well save money on if you can. When it comes to other pieces like appliances, sometimes it's better to splurge! Just do your research before you shop. The discounts are pretty great, so check 'em out!
