You may remember back in August, I told you about a campaign and petition to plant healthy, edible landscapes in high-impact, high-visibility places, including the White House — much like San Francisco's Slow Food Nation Victory Garden — called Eat the View. Well, as it turns out, after the polling the public on their preference of 81 ideas for our future pres., Eat the View was named the winner by On Day One, a platform for gathering ideas about what Obama should do on his first day in office.
This isn't to say that Obama will be taking any orders from On Day One, but the people have spoken, and it's clear that many would like to see some veggies growing at 1600 Pennsylvania. What do you think about this campaign? Do you have your own vegetable, fruit, or herb garden? Would you like to see more gardens in public spaces?

My favorite interior decorating magazine, Domino, has just announced the news that Los Angeles-based decorator Michael Smith has been given the nod for designing President-elect Barack Obama and family's private White House quarters. Although a formal announcement should come later in the week, a spokesperson from President-elect Obama’s transition team confirmed the selection with Domino.
Smith, whose clients include Steven Spielberg, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Cindy Crawford, is notable for his elegant mixing of both old and new world styles to create sophisticated yet comfortable interiors. His new book, Houses, offers advice on decorating your own home through the example of 20 projects, including Smith's own Bel Air residence.

The Neisha Crosland shimmering aluminum Hollywood Grape wallpaper adds an instant dose of glamour to this petite bathroom from House to Home, and the dark wood vanity conjures 1930s film, ushering you into the alluring Art Deco era, whilst making the most of a small space. As much as I swoon over this glam salle de bains, I think the style should be reserved for powder rooms and half bathrooms.
When the day winds down, and it's time to freshen up with a long bath or hot shower, I want a tranquil, serene space that's a retreat from blinding colors and extroverted patterns. You can introduce small spoonfuls of luxury into your bathing space with accessories like an antique perfume bottle or a Venetian mirror, which will add glam while maintaining a relaxed design scheme.
Do you like glamour in your relaxed spaces, such as a bathing area? Or do you prefer something more relaxing?

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to interview Dress My Nest host Thom Filicia. Thom, who recently authored Thom Filicia Style, talked about his experience making over The View's dressing rooms. Thom also appeared on the show to promote the Kimberly-Clark Room-a-Day Giveaway, which gives 16 participants the chance to each win a $25,000 room makeover. Thom also shared his personal philosophies for creating cohesive and beautiful rooms. Thom's style, which blends relaxed elegance with each client's individual sense of style, seemed to be a perfect resource for CasaSugar readers interested in making over their own homes. You can peruse some of Thom's design tips from his new book when you read more
