Amanda Soule, the author, crafter, and mama behind SouleMama, recently shared a no-cost fix she made to her home's entry space. With four kids in a Maine farmhouse that's mid-renovation, Amanda initially asked her kids and husband to take off Winter layers and boots in the barn, which they enter before heading into the kitchen.
This solution, Amanda notes, worked great until it started to get really cold out. She writes, "I found myself staring in the face of a shivering toddler, telling him that he needed to take his boots and jacket off in the barn (where it was as cold as outside) and then come inside. I realized just how ridiculous I sounded as I heard the words coming out of my mouth. And? I didn't want to do it myself, either."
Not wanting her kitchen entry area to look like this photo all Winter long, Amanda challenged herself to come up with a solution to the piles of coats and boots that littered her entry.
See how Amanda created a cozy and organized corner without spending a cent!

Painting always seems like a major commitment, but in a smaller room, such as an entryway, it can be a minor undertaking that won't eat up an entire day or weekend. Choosing the first room that guests usually see also makes a huge visual impact. So, if you've been tempted to paint a room in your house with a
I recently finished my foyer and am quite pleased with how it turned out! I was looking for something different, not too matchy match and hopefully an area that welcome's guest.
Every season requires distinctly different needs from your entryway. Since this is usually the first room that guests also see, it's important to keep the space not only organized, but attractive as well. Check out these tips for transitioning this room from Summer to Autumn.
While I can't dole out the whopping $14.2 million to get the NYC home, I can take note of a few of her décor tricks. The one that catches my eyes most is her use of drapes to section off her foyer from her living area. I quite like the idea of being able to seal off the room completely without the use of doors. The voluminous curtains and tiebacks breathe romantic style and elegance into a tranquil setting. Now if only I could just live there . . .
I grew up in two different Colonial homes, which each had a staircase leading up from the foyer. It didn't occur to me until I had grown up a bit that not all homes have this feature greeting guests as they enter. For a while, I just thought that's how all homes were built! I love how welcoming the architectural element is, and it allows for fun decorating with statement-making chandeliers! The next time I'm househunting, it'll definitely be on my wish list, but I know that one staircase does not a great house make; of course, I'll have other priorities. Do you have a staircase in your foyer?
Tired of dealing with cluttered Winter boots in your entryway? You might want to consider investing in shelving or cubbies for dealing with your Winter footwear.
A console table in your foyer can make a great landing strip for your keys, purse, and other daily essentials. But it can also just be pretty and fill an otherwise dead space. I love this foyer by interior designer
