Flea Market Tips, Just in Time for HGTV's Flea Market Flip Premiere!

If you love the thrill of a good flea market hunt, chances are you're also a fan of HGTV's Flea Market Flip (season two premieres tonight at 9pm/8c!).

If you love the thrill of a good flea market hunt, chances are you're also a fan of HGTV's Flea Market Flip (season two premieres tonight at 9pm/8c!). Equipped with $500 cash and a discerning eye, the Flea Market Flip teams search to find treasures that can be bought, fixed, and flipped for a higher sum – and the competition is fierce!

To celebrate the show's premiere and the arrival of flea market season, we called on one of our favorite flea market connoisseurs, Sandra Michaan. As coproducer of the Alameda Point Antiques and Vintage Fashion Faires, and VP of Antiques by the Bay and Michaan's Auctions, Sandra Michaan knows a thing or two about scoring big at flea markets. She insists it's the best way to find quality products at affordable prices and believes that one of the most valuable pre-antiquing tips is to know what to look for.

Vintage Mirrors
"There's a plethora of vintage mirrors for amazing prices at flea markets. I have found several for my home at the Alameda Point Antiques Faire, all under $100, including a floor-length French Revival style with original white paint and a mirrored shelf/ shadow box. Even smaller mirrors can make a big impact when clustered together."

Decorative Lighting
"I always keep an eye out for decorative lighting options, which can cost a pretty penny at a lighting store. Crystal droplet pendants can be bought loose and can be added for a dash of flare to a plain fixture. These droplets can be painted as a DIY option and would modernize a lighting piece. Paint them black or a neon color for a cool effect. Don't worry about missing or damaged shades — they can be easily updated with a modern shade for a new look."

If you're planning on hosting a party for Fourth of July festivities, you'll want to make sure that your backyard is up for the challenge. Choosing decorative elements that are multifunctional is key, but it takes a bit of preparation. To ensure that your Fourth of July bash is a beautiful success, get organized with this list of backyard entertaining essentials.

  • Shop for extra seating that can be easily stashed once the party is over. Folding wooden chairs, benches, and garden stools can be stored or repurposed in other parts of the house after the party is over.
  • Add a pretty and protective surface to outdoor tabletops with tablecloths. Oilcloths are offered in a variety of patterns and colors and are ideal for easy cleanup.
  • Set down the bug spray and keep mosquitoes at bay with beautifully packaged citronella candles. We especially love the classic, subdued elegance of glass votive citronella candles.

SHFT will use the new headquarters at the W Residences for hosting private events and screenings, conducting meetings, producing lifestyle and video content, and displaying SHFT-curated products.

"The Residences at W Hollywood is a fantastic property that marries sustainable luxury living and great innovation in the heart of Hollywood," Grenier said in a press statement. Flea Market Field Trip: Alameda Point Antiques Faire

At CasaSugar, our favorite spaces often incorporate a mix of modern and antique pieces.

At CasaSugar, our favorite spaces often incorporate a mix of modern and antique pieces. Even the sleekest contemporary room feels instantly warmer and less contrived when an antique is introduced. To welcome flea market season, we decided to capture inspiring flea market finds from markets around the country in our new series Flea Market Field Trip. With iPhones in hand, we, along with special guests and fellow antique enthusiasts, will be trolling some of our favorite weekend spots to share the best antique picks and tips all Summer long. Keep an eye on our Twitter and Facebook pages to see which flea market we'll hit up next, or follow us on Instagram to check out all our flea market finds under the hashtag #fleafieldtrip.

Last Sunday, I hit up the Alameda Point Antiques Faire to kick off the series. Located on an old naval air station, the former aircraft runway hosts over 800 antique dealer booths for the largest assortment of antiques and collectibles on the West Coast. Surrounded by panoramic views of the San Francisco bay and skyline, it's an ideal place to spend a sunny afternoon. Keep reading to see the antique treasures I uncovered!

Moroccan design and decor may be a popular decorating trend, but for Maryam Montague, the woman behind the beautiful and popular blog My Marrakesh and the new book Marrakesh by Design, it's much more than that: it's a way of life. When Maryam isn't working at her main occupation as a human rights and democracy specialist, she's writing and photographing for her blog; managing her shop, Red Thread Souk; and hosting visitors at Peacock Pavilions, her home and a boutique hotel in a Marrakesh olive grove (which she and her husband designed, built, and decorated).

Maryam recently traveled back to the United States as part of her book tour, and we were happy to catch up with her in LA, where she was presenting at the Legends of La Cienega event at the La Cienega Design Quarter. Keep reading for some of Maryam's thoughts on decorating with Moroccan inspirations in mind, details on her book's genesis, and other fabulous quotes from this always-inspiring woman.

The Hottest Spots in the World For Design Inspiration: Morocco, Britain, Cuba, and Two Other Amazing Destinations

We're thrilled to present a post from Ashley Read at SFA Design.

We're thrilled to present a post from Ashley Read at SFA Design. Ashley recently attended the Los Angeles design event, Legends, and reported back to us on the latest trends and inspirations from the event.

Named "LA's premier destination for home design" by House Beautiful, the La Cienega Design Quarter is chock-full of the hottest interior design studios, showrooms, and galleries. Until recently, this chic neighborhood has been a trade secret among design professionals, but with the 4th Annual Legends of La Cienega event coming to a close, it seems that the LCDQ is a secret no more!

For those not yet in the know, the Legends event is a who's who gathering of the top designers, design publications, and vendors, similar to the West Week events, but in a more relaxed, neighborly setting. Each year comes with a relevant theme: last year celebrated art, and for 2012, Legends designers shared their international inspirations via "Windows to the World," complete with panel discussions and window displays depicting an exciting array of location-based inspirations from Abu Dhabi to Antarctica, Kenya to Côte d'Azur.

Attending all of the amazing panel discussions was a real eye-opener and definitely caused me to add a few new spots to my "travel bucket list!" Check out a few international inspiration tips we picked up from the A-list Legends panelists, and instead of Paris or Tuscany, try looking to Fes, Morocco, or Vietnam as your next design muse . . .

Designer Vicente Wolf Inspires With Tips From a Beautiful Bangkok Home

In his recent article in the Wall Street Journal, designer Vincente Wolf offered some beautiful inspiration and tips on how to give your home a taste of Thai aesthetic.

In his recent article in the Wall Street Journal, designer Vincente Wolf offered some beautiful inspiration and tips on how to give your home a taste of Thai aesthetic. By looking at the amazing home of Jim Thompson, an expat architect who revamped the Thai silk industry, Vincente offers practical advice on how to bring this calming and rich vibe to your home.

  • "Play with height." Vincente says it's integral to have a balance of different heights and focal points in the room.
  • "Casual is in the intent." A traditional floor plan and elegant furniture make the space feel livable.
  • "Sometimes it's not what you add, but what you take away." Being able to edit yourself is key when designing a Thai-inspired space.
  • "Brighten dark finishes with shimmer." Slight glittery accents can bring a sense of strong emotion to a room.
  • "Multitask with trays." Putting a tray on a plus-size ottoman can turn it into a practical coffee table.
  • "Neutral and nervy need each other." Balancing bright and neutral hues makes everything in the space feel easy and relaxed. While pops of color can make all the difference, Bangkok beauty does not intend to overwhelm.

See How We Would Style Lauren Conrad's New Beverly Hills Penthouse

After taking a loss of over $100,000 on her stunning Hollywood Hills Mediterranean, reality TV star and style maven Lauren Conrad finally found a new home in the hills.

After taking a loss of over $100,000 on her stunning Hollywood Hills Mediterranean, reality TV star and style maven Lauren Conrad finally found a new home in the hills. Beverly Hills, to be exact. Her new 3,233-square-foot penthouse condo includes three bedrooms, four bathrooms, a two-story living room, large family room, formal dining room, private balconies, and a shared pool, deck, and entertainment room. While the condo is spacious and flooded with plenty of natural light, it's apparent that the coveted 90210 zip code will come at a much higher cost than the $1.4 million price tag. Lauren's new home will not only need a decorator's touch, but also the help of a skilled contractor for some much-needed renovations. Still, we're confident that Lauren's strong style sense will undoubtedly play a hand in making over her new Beverly Hills pad. Take a look to see the inside of Lauren's new home, and find out which products we would decorate with if we were moving in!
