A Classic and Timeless Country Wedding

Updated 05/07/12 10:38 AM · Posted by · 1 comment

Here's a post from Juliana2641817 from the CasaSugar Community group Wedding Decor and DIYs.

My wedding was in September of 2011. I planned the colors/theme around our venue, a log cabin structure on a bend in the river. I wanted colors that were timeless and reflected the season. The first photo is an inspiration board I put together for the wedding, and the others are photos of the wedding itself.

Create Gorgeous Custom Roman Blinds (Without Sewing!)

Updated 05/04/12 10:53 AM · Posted by · 1 comment

Roman blinds are a wonderful option if you're looking to add pattern or color to windows, but prefer a more tailored look than curtains. Unlike curtains, roman blinds require a more precise fit, and custom options are usually pretty pricey. Blogger Cindy Berisic envisioned covering the windows in her office with roman blinds in a hot pink and white pattern. She shared her brilliant roman shades DIY with us, and we're so inspired by her technique that we wanted to also share it with you! The Premier Prints Gotcha White/Candy Pink fabric she chose is just under $8 per yard. Once she had her fabric, all she needed was measuring tape, scissors, fabric glue, and miniblinds. Keep reading to get Cindy's detailed step-by-step instructions. Take it away, Cindy!

Here's a post from ShanDurRah from the CasaSugar Wedding Decor and DIYs group

My now husband Andy and I are fascinated by the whimsical and by fantasy. We already had a beautiful setting at Calimigos Ranch in Malibu, CA, so it did not take much decorating to embellish it. All the invitations, programs, table numbers, and escort cards were DIYed by me. The lovely photography was done by Flutter Glass Photography.

A Wedding Full of Moroccan Accents, Peacock Feathers, and Jewel Tones

Updated 04/18/12 9:01 PM · Posted by · 1 comment

Here's a post from CasaSugar Community member mellie_608 from the Wedding Decor and DIYs group:

For my July 2010 wedding, I wanted to do something with peacock feathers. While peacocks are native to South Asia, they are known to inhabit other areas and so I settled on the mystique of Morocco as a backdrop to feature beautiful peacock feathers and their gorgeous jewel tones.

Hindu mythology associates peacocks with the god Lakshmi. The feathers thus represent her qualities: kindness, patience and good fortune. Feathers are also a symbol of renewal. While many cultures view the symbolism of peacocks and peacock feathers differently, I chose to use them simply because of their beauty.

Lovely Little Vignettes: Modern Elegance

Here's a post from CasaSugar Community member vwilli1025 from the Lovely Little Vignettes group:

I created this little vignette that anchors the right side of my living room. I love how it brings together all aspects of my color palette: blue, chartreuse, wood tones and silver. These chairs were actually floor samples we got for a great price at West Elm (no shame in bargain hunting!). See more at Homer and Ruth.

Sunny reading spot

I wanted a cozy, happy spot to curl up with a book and love color and whimsy, so I constructed a side table from a vintage suitcase and made shelves for trinkets out of colorfully bound books.

Paper Pom Poms and Gold Branches

Here's a post from CasaSugar Community member inglenookdecor from the Lovely Little Vignettes group:

Sometimes the easiest and simplest DIY's are your best option when designing or decorating an event. So when my friend Carmela asked me to decorate her soiree for Austin In Style Weddings and Inspiration a day before the event {and only a few days afte my three week Holiday vacation}, I happily obliged. After all, it's as easy as 1, 2, 3...

1. Have a theme. I just asked her what is the feel she would like to have for the little soiree. The adjectives she chose were glamorous and sweet. And although themes can range from time periods, movies, destinations {really, the options are endless}, we went with a color palette. Gold is glamorous and pink is sweet, so gold and pink it was!
2. Use what you already have. All we needed were branches {which we alread have}, gold spray pink, pink gift tissue paper, candles galore and sweets.

It started with a white branch.

Then some gold spray paint. We also spray painted the small shades gold, made pink pom poms and adorned a hurricane with a chevron pattern.

3. Install. Here is my intern Rachel joyfully fluffing the pink poms poms after tying them to a chandelier.

And here's another look

We scattered a few antique mercury candle holders as centerpieces.

See? Easy as 1, 2, 3.

Paper Flower DIY For Weddings or Parties

Here's a post from CasaSugar Community member inglenookdecor from the Lovely Little Vignettes group:

I must be a paper flower junkie, I get withdrawal symptoms when I haven't made a paper flower in one week. This is exhibit one. So, for a recent photo shoot for San Antonio Magazine, I made these flowers for a "Mint-themed" photo shoot. They didn't quite make the cut for the fashion spread but I thought I'd show you how to make them. Well, first, this is a modification of the flowers from none other than Martha Stewart here. I don't claim to be a DIY guru, but I'm an expert in writing policies & procedures [ok..that's a joke, ask my peers! :)].

My Small Office Space

Updated 03/05/12 5:15 PM · Posted by · 5 comments

Here's a post from CasaSugar Community member h2urHome.

We have a small space on our second floor that I decided to make into my office space. The space is a bit strange — the home is open concept and all of the walls seem to connect with each other, so deciding on a paint color was hard. Ultimately I decided to just paint one of the walls black.

The desk is an auction find. I painted it red and sprayed the outdated hardware silver. I also decided to buy a piece of plexi glass to place on top of it instead of glass to save a little bit of money but also to protect the top of the desk.

The wall vignette is what I'd like to call sentimental art, meaning pieces made by my daughter or art that probably only is considered art by my family, because it means so much to us.

In this last photo you can get an idea of how small the space is. I tried to use the space to get maximum results. I was so happy my campaigner bookshelves fit in the room!

If you'd like to see more of my office space please feel free to stop by House To Your Home!
