Would You Want a Floating Staircase?

I've seen a few floating staircases in the past and they certainly look cool. But I think I'm too much of a wimp not to have a banister. And they're definitely not very safe for children or the elderly. Would you want one in your house?

Anonymous, but the play structures at parks normally have something for your hands to hold onto unlike those floating stairs. Also, you can fall on these stairs if you have something like cerebral palsy like I do or you go up too quickly and don't pay attention to where your feet are landing OR you have uneven legs/hips that make going up/down stairs more difficult (my hips are uneven by a good inch. I have one leg that's longer than the other). There's a million ways you can fall off those.

I don't understand why people would fall. There is a place for your foot (feet) like any other staircase. The play structure at the park has much more "danger" and kids negotiate that with no problems.

Far far far too clumsy for one of these. I also have a fear of stairs having no back. Some of my stairs down to my basement have no back and it is so scary going up and down them with my basket of clothes.

Looks pretty neat but i've always wondered how sturdy they are, how much weight can they support? i still like them though, it's a nice clean look but at the same time, it's an accident waiting to happen!

I can't even walk a normal flight of stairs. They look awesome, but no thanks.

No, that's asking for trouble. Besides, in the U.S., an insurance company may insist the homeowner add banisters before issuing a homeowner's policy, as that's considered a liability.Also, as far as home building, that may be considered a code violation.As cool as that looks, it may be dangerous and impractical.

I like them, but I don't think I'd have one. I like modern, but I don't think I'd ever have a modern home. Maybe in an office - but then, unless it was in your house - you couldn't get away with that! Ha.

I think it looks great, but I could only have one if I had a second "safety" staircase for carrying laundry & stuff, and for when I drink lol

I love these it's such a clean look, but my one worry is that I'm a total klutz and I can see myself falling off the side of this on one of those I'm late for work and I keep forgetting stuff upstairs days.

I've had a fear of the open staircases ever since I was a kid. I remember going into my father's office building, and their staircases had no backs on the stairs. It seemed like I could see 50 feet straight down.
