Would You Buy a Hanging Chair?

I spotted this chair in photos from the new Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning flick The Runaways, out today, about Joan Jett's 1970s all-girl rock band. The set designer really nailed this one on the head, seeing as hanging chairs were in their heyday in the '70s — especially after Eero Aarnio debuted his iconic Bubble Chair in 1968. The chair looks fab here with its corduroy cushions and that groovy labyrinthian wallpaper. But I fear a hanging chair would look too dated out of context. What do you say? Would you buy one?

No. Personally, I don't like to be swayed or rocked when I sit. For this reason, I don't own rocking chairs either.

eh, is that matt damon? if not he sure looks like him! ok on topic now... no hanging chair here. I like the clean off-the-floor-easy-to-sweep-under(as if!)-look, but I don't trust my ceilings :)

No...I like to move my furniture around sometimes to get a different look, and this is too limiting for that. Also, if you want to get new stuff and change your style, I think it would make it more difficult. Maybe outdoors tho.

I would have to say YES but very partial here. For those folks who are concerned about the chair falling, you can actually buy several types of frames to hang the chair from. Many of the frames will support up to 300 lbs. So don't let that hold you back. You can even find a chair that will fit two people - think of it as a modern replacement to the front porch swing. Thanks for the blog post. Really enjoyed it.

If I ever get around to extending the pergola, I'd love to add a bubble chair outside. I'm not opposed to having one indoors, but I just don't know where it would go.

Yes, if I found one I liked. Like manxy's, it would have to be outdoors for me.

I have one out on the covered patio. When people see it they always make a bee-line for it. It used to be inside in the previous house, but it really works out on the patio.
