I much prefer smaller, quieter places that are locally owned to any particular chain - no matter what level of luxury is provided. As long as it is clean and somewhat conveniently located it is okay with me.

I've stayed in some amazing hotels on our trip around Asia. The one I remember was the Royal Garden, I think it was in Hong Kong or was it Singapore. Either way it was amazing! Whitney Houston was just leaving as we checked in. This was back before she went crazy (mid 90s). In Montego Bay, Jamaica I stayed at the Half-Moon resort which Beyonce has staied in. If it's good enough for Celebs, then it's good enough for me. The rooms were large. Soft linens on the bed. Great amenities. Amazing landscaping. Everything a 5 star hotel should be.

my fav of all time that i havent been to is palazzo versace gold coast AU. my fav I have been to is Sanur Beach Resort in Bali... they clip the grass by hand every day!! and rake the beach for you as well

How about a luxury hotel on the beach? I've stayed in the Ritz-Carlton on South Beach in Miami, and it was amazing!

I love B&Bs. There is something special about them. Hotels feel a little too clean and stiff for my likings.

I'd go for the hip and modern hotel. I'm thinking Hotel San Jose in Austin. Unfortunately, I live in Austin (and less than a mile away from Hotel San Jose), but that's the type of place I'd love to stay in! If the hotel was on a beach, that would be even better.

There's this hotel in cairo that we used to always stay at called Moven Peek (Or something like that)
It was a five star hotel and it was just perfect with the five star restaurants and entertainment.

that is the Raffles Hotel located in Singapore. Its named after the 'modern Father' of Singapore, Sir Stamford Raffles, who used to work for the East India Company. I believe its one of the oldest remaining 'grand hotels' in the world. Queen Elizabeth, Michael Jackson and Madonna have stayed there including many other dignitaries, royal or otherwise. I believe the Raffles Hotel group also owns the Watergate hotel in washington, DC.

I have been lucky enough to stay at the George V in Paris and I hope to stay again in Jan.!!! My favorite hotel ever but hopefully I will have more of its caliber to compare it.
