Midday light is uncomfortable and unflattering. If you can, walk through your venue with your photographer and planner around the same time as your family photos, and look at the light. If it is right overhead, then look for areas of open shade that might make it more flattering or directional. Apps like Helios for smartphones can help you visualize how the light will fall if you're not there at just the right time. Think about your ceremony venue, as well. Often the best spot for the ceremony is looking straight into the sun. Work with your planner and designer to create a beautiful, semishady structure that will keep you from squinting through your nuptuals. I'm a fan of a good parasol, as well; portable shade makes everyone happier!
