CS: I love how much you embrace color in your decorating. Do you have a favorite color that you gravitate toward? How do you choose colors when you're working with clients?

KP: I really try to get an initial impression from them when I meet them. I sort of pull from what they like and put my own twist on it. If they're really into desaturated colors — for instance, I had one client from India who was really into the deep jewel tones, so we pulled accents of [those colors]. They wanted a modern spin on that, so everything was stark and white, with deep golds, ruby reds, and sapphire blues. So it really depends on the client.
