A valance is a piece of fabric designed to conceal the hardware used in a window treatment. Most often paired with curtains but sometimes used for blinds, a valance sits at the top of a window, where the window covering begins. Valances can be pleated, draped, ballooned, or formed into a rigid box shape.

The word can also be used to describe any drapery hung along the edge of a piece of furniture, such as a table, banister, or altar.

Fabric in general tend to "cozy" a room. It's a great way to call attention to a wonderful view by framing a window, or if the view stinks, to cover it!!

I dig window treatments, but that one looks a little seasonal. I need something thats going to make the room pop.

my mom likes to make her own curtains. and they end up looking wonderfully luxurious. depending on the fabric and cut she uses, she can make a room go from "country living" to "versailles" it's amazing what curtains can do to a room in seconds.
