Use Conduit and Drop Cloth to Make Curtains

Before and After: A Curtain Transformation For Around $20

Here's a post from CasaSugar Community member LAKR from the Su Casa group:

We're renting this loft from January to June...long enough to settle in, but we don't want to spend a bundle decorating, and we can't make permanent changes, of course.
I really disliked the  undersized curtains on our beautiful front window which looks out onto the waterfront.  I had a feeling that floor to ceiling curtains would draw the eye upward, soften some of the echo in the room, and make the room seem wider.  I would have toyed with the idea of a bold black/white Marimekko print or a beautiful color, but the budget had limitations...

After reading several posts about painter's drop cloths (under $10 each side),  I gave it a try — along with electrical conduit for a rod ($2.88 for a 10 footer) which fits into the existing hardware.  The curtains are still relaxing a bit, and might need a bit of steaming to get stubborn wrinkles out, but I really like them, and they do make the room look wider and larger overall!
The texture and soft, almost "tea stained" color fit well with the cushions on the vintage lounge chair.
