Coveted Crib: Upward Bound House Homeless Shelter

Vanessa De Vargas of Turquoise Interior Design and a group of 17 talented Los Angeles-based designers have transformed a former Culver City budget motel into a homeless shelter any of us would be proud to call home.

Upward Bound House's new emergency Family Shelter, which provides emergency housing and service for homeless children and parents, was given a contemporary facelift by Vanos Architects, while the troop of decorators ensured that the interiors were not only comfortable and useful, but also stylish! The rooms are a calm, relaxing respite from a hard life with soft, sophisticated palettes and homey, personal accents.

Impressively, the team worked around the clock for two-and-a-half weeks to put the rooms together, without a budget from Upward Bound House! Some of the furniture and accessories were donated from places like Zia Priven Lighting, The Woven Company, and Madison and Grow Wallpaper; all the other furnishings were contributed out of pocket.
