I'll be the first to admit that I'm not a lace kind of gal, but I can't help but crave this modern lacy look that's showing up everywhere from Summer fashion to sun-shading umbrellas. Anything but delicate and dainty, these bold designs use twists on traditional lace designs — including cut-outs and graphic elements — for a funky and feminine look. Here are six fabulously un-grandma lace creations I've found.

I looooooove this! And oh my god thank you SO MUCH for starting up this section. I was just thinking the other week how amazing it would be for this website to talk more about home furnishing and accessories, and now my dream has come true! Hooray!
Actually, I really love the modern lace look. I can't paint the walls in my apartment, so what I did is I went to the fabric store, grabbed a few yards of off-white lace and went to town on my walls! I tacked up 10 inch wide strips of the lace from ceiling to floor about 5 feet from one another and covered my entire door with the same lace. It ended up looking like a really neat paint treatment! It's subtle because the color of the lace matches my walls, but it still gives them some noticable modern lady flavor!

Honestly you can get the lace fabric at any craft store and it's usually pretty cheap. I bought the cheapest craft lace, nothing fancy. Plus, if it ends up not working out for you, you can always re-use the lace as covers for accessories around your house. [you can glue it to picture frames and vases to spice them up, use them as trimming if you sew things, or maybe just go with a nice loose table cover?]
