The first time I smelled the lovely citrus scent of freesia, I was absolutely smitten. I've since scooped up perfumes bearing those delightful notes, but nothing can beat the true scent of freesia growing in your garden or in a pot around your home.
If you're thinking of planting them, this month or next is the time to do it: they need the chilly evenings to set their blooms. Just make sure you plant them in good soil in full sunshine, with the bulbs about 1.5 inches deep.
Some freesia are more fragrant than others. Excelsiro, Demeter, Allure, Golden Wave, Snowdon, Pink Westlind, and Mirabe are some great varieties if you're after that scintillating scent.
