I discovered artist Timothy Liles's work when I saw that the Ace Hotel New York picked up one of his three-legged chairs for a loft room. Intrigued, I had to get a peek at his portfolio, and now I'm downright smitten.
Tim designed a modern, pop-inspired Braid Dead Rug (inquire) and had it made by the Country Braid House in New Hampshire using traditional wool rug braiding techniques. The juxtaposition of the contemporary design and the pastoral weaving method is intriguing and fresh — and of course, I'm a sucker for his play on the words "brain-dead" and "braided." The only trouble is that the double-sided wool rug itself may just be more durable than its style! I'd love to see this concept flushed out to include more versatile modern designs. What do you think? To see the rug up close, read more.
