CS: How does the Greek mythological creature of the same name influence the design of the Tantalo Hotel?
TH: We let the overall hotel's concept drive the decision on the name. We had been searching and trying to hone in on a name that spoke to all the different components of the hotel (the lively restaurant and bar on the ground floor, the unique guest rooms, and the amazing rooftop setting), but kept coming up short. The story of Tantalo and his courage, his sacrifice, and most importantly, his gift to mortals spoke to our concept and vision. Without his courage and desire to please and satisfy his friends on earth, we would not be able to enjoy the food and drink of the gods that we enjoy at Tantalo.
We used the myth of Tantalo as inspiration to commission a giant mural on the ground floor, which is a feature art piece of the hotel. We tell the story of our hero Tantalo not only in in literal terms via a verbal explanation, but a larger than life artist's interpretation using a mix of both photography and paint. (Tantalo is the Spanish name for Tantalus)
