The classic Shaker style of the Gaiam Step Basket ($29, from $60) may not appeal to the modernists out there, but I think we can all appreciate its functionality. Maybe it's just me, but I think the mother of every friend I had growing up used to leave her family's things (sneakers, magazines, laundry, etc.) at the base of the stairs to be picked up. There's nothing neat about leaving things laying on the stairs, but a step basket will keep things looking tidy, and you can carry it with you on your way up. Oh, and did I mention that it's made from sustainably-grown rattan? What do you think? Would you use one of these in your own home?

Oooh this is cool! I won't be putting yarns on them ('cause I can't knit to save my bottom) but I can think of a dozen things that I can use it for. I'll definitely use one for our house
1AWESOME Steal of the Day!! I don't have a step basket like this (b/c I couldn't find one in a color/price I liked) but I do have three separate baskets on the three bottom steps to collect my family's downstairs 'droppings.'
2It does look cool. We don't have any steps in our home so I'll pass. Besides, I'm a clutz and I'd probably trip on it. lol

4Cool idea! But i dont think i would put a basket on the stairs.
5I don't have stairs is my current home but I've always been adamant about not having stuff on my stairs, I hate the way it looks. The baskets are too deep and I'd never find anything in them anyway.
6ahaha, my mom LOVES THESE. there's like 3 on our stairs
