Smash Season-Two Set Design

"It was important for me too that the restaurant feel like it had been there for a really long time and had a really rich history. This photo illustrates it perfectly. See the column in the back? That has signatures of theater people on it. We wanted to show the past and the present at the same time and somehow feature Broadway actors, but we didn't want to repeat the classic Sardi's look: a wall of framed actors' caricatures. It also serves as the one architectural element that was preserved from the past, which is why it has a different color. I know it seems like overthinking it, but all of these details help create a very authentic look and feel.

"The copper bar came from the idea that this bar was first created in the 1920s. It was another way to show the glorious past. Same for the tin ceilings!"
