Simple Style: Skateboard Shelf

This skateboard shelf would be just as easy to install as bracket shelving, but the unexpected surface — and its accompanying wheels — make it fun and edgy. I love how graphic designer Mathieu Hubert (via Poppytalk) uses it to display retro toys.

All you'd need to make it is an old skateboard and two shelf brackets, screwed into the board and affixed to the wall.

This is really cute! I hadnt thought about doing it like that. This would be cute in a boys room.. or in a game/play room..

I agree with the commenters that it's such a cute idea for a boys' room. i really love that it's a way to be creative and different without necessarily spending a fortune on kids' rooms; a lot of them just seem spoilt and used to designer home or clothing items now, which is sad. there's always time to grow into that stuff!

I think it's hideous!!! Maybe if it was mounted on the wall differently, I don't know.....did a child actually hang it up there??? Does nothing for me.

It would have to be in the right house and the right room. I'm not a huge fan. To much of a girly-girl I guess.

My husband and I are big skiers. We had two skis up as shelves in our living room when we lived in a condo. Not everyone loved it (some did) but everyone commented on it when they first saw it! It was a fun look for the condo but I don't plan on repeating it in the house.

I think it's such a cute idea! And I think there are ways to make it totally chic enough to go well in places besides a child's bedroom. Surf and skater culture are a huge part of where I'm from and I think that there are plenty of ways to make this girly. The only thing I'm not a huge fan of are the obvious shelf brackets.

hey! thats so cool...especially if someone has an old skateboard that they no longer use and don't want to get rid of it because of sentimental reasons or something.
